Next weekend I'm walking from Camber Sands to Margate as I look to take on the Big 100. 65+ miles over two days isn't going to be easy but I'm really looking forward to the challenge which will also be a good test for my lungs.
It'll also be really good for me, mentally. The pneumothorax really hit hard back in January as I'd been building up a head of steam with my fitness. It took me a long time to get the confidence to go to the gym again but I'm now back running 5k on the treadmill and feeling strong. If I complete the challenge it'll be another big step in the right direction and will allow me to draw a line in the sand after my troubles earlier in the year.
It's also an opportunity for me to start doing my bit to raise a bit of awareness and money for the British Lung Foundation. I've set a modest target of £1000 and I'm optimistic I'll make with a bit of luck and I've set up a fundraising page with Just Giving if anyone would like to sponsor me: justgiving.com/fundraising/...
I'll make sure I take lots of photos during the course of the walk and will post again to let everyone know how I get on. Before all that I have my rearranged first appointment with the lung transplant team at the Harefield Hospital. Not quite sure what to expect but it's certainly going to be an eventful week!
