Four months is a long time to be on continual steroids. Did you reduce them very gradually? It sounds like you came off too quickly. If you are unsure, might be worth going back to the doctor for some more Prednisolone 1mg tablets.
On again off again my Dr questions my quality of air now and wants me to change my filters more often....i live in the city but it does seem to be helping
the younger Doctor are treating steroid like the magic bullet six tablets a day for two week then just stop. they don't seem to have been educated in the use and side effect reducing them slowly to allow your own system to wake up and take over. yo need to educate yourself on the use of antibiotics and steroids and how they work. then you will know why you came down with a virus so the next time you will know exactly what you need and don't take no for answer your the one living with this so fight your corner
Thanks guys the doctor didn't want to give me steroids because he wanted to see me while I was having a flare up ,I went for a few days ok then started gasping for air when I did something, couldn't get in to see same doc so saw someone else and she said I had virus couldn't give biopics for virus she said take Ibrufen went chemist they said ooh u shouldn't take Ibrufen when u have copd can't win
The pharmacist is the best person to ask. AFAIK Ibuprofen, being a non steroidal anti inflammatory should not be taken by asthmatics but COPD is different. Maybe have another talk to him or her.
Regarding steroids, a short high dose course does not require gradual withdrawal. It is only necessary when someone has been on the drug for some time. This is because steroids affect the adrenal glands. They need time to recover and start working properly again so that is why a phased withdrawal is required.
Thanks Bellamy feeling a better today as well hop ure well
