Last year at around this time, I wrote this rhyme just before going on a trip in my campervan. This year unfortunately, I'm not quite as good and have yet to make my first trip of the year. So I thought I would recycle my rhyme to encourage folk, including myself, to get out and about again now that the weather seems to be improving.
I’m a dedicated seaside man
Have been all my years.
The screeching of the seagulls,
Is like music to my ears.
I love the sea and beaches,
The colourful shops and piers.
The noisy Punch and Judy man.
The donkeys with big ears.
The gulls are under fire now,
For stealing from the guests.
Once they were much admired
They’re now regarded pests.
The sad fact is we took their fish
For humans to devour.
So now they try to take it back,
That’s called ‘seagull power’.

I used to love seaside holidays too Don, but as I don't get out much here's my ideal summer day. Also and oldish one I've recycled.
August Afternoon
Out in the garden I sit and laze
Feeling my skin begin to glow,
sweltering in the summer haze
with the Ashes on the radio.
The butterflies flitting here and there,
wondering which way next to go.
The bees buzz around the Roses, fair,
then down to the Lavender bush below.
An aeroplane flies overhead
visiting lands that I don't know.
But I'll stay here by my garden shed,
with the Ashes on the radio.

That was lovely, for a while I was sitting there with you. 🌝
Very nice Don. I live by the Sea n today is grey, dull n rainy. Donkeys under their shelter and not many Seagulls overhead. Deckchair Man's stayed home n Pier is empty. Aww.. well, Roll on Spring! Er...Summer?
You'll soon be off in your van, Don, and regaling us with your travellers tales. Maybe not next week though as 2Greys said there's snow forecast! It's a grey day here in Sussex today, but hoping the good weather comes back soon. Thanks for the poem. Lovely! xx Moy
Oh to be beside the seaside. Got to have secret coves, dunes, rock pools. Where I am now the nearest beaches just are miles and miles of sand, which I find boring. Your poem really conjurs up that warm summer seaside feeling. Lovely.
It's the same where I am, flat as a fluke, ideal for walking if you are bad on your legs, but a bit boring. I like places like Barmouth, North Wales and Sidmouth, Devon. Flat in the towns but surrounded by hills or mountains.
We had our first trip out with our new caravan this week. We were only away three days, and to Sherwood Forest so nowhere near the sea either, (didn’t see Robin Hood) but so relaxing. The caravan is my happy place!
brilliant love , made me laugh, we have a camper and go all summer if we can take all our meds and oxygen stay at Dawlish as long as we can, hope you get to the seaside tooo take care xx
