Hi, if your inhalers aren't working as well as they did then do ask your doctor or nurse for a review. Sometimes they need 'tweaking'.
Salbutamol (Ventolin) is a bronchodilator that's used in nebulisers but in a higher dose than an inhaler.
People with asthma usually have a better response to bronchodilators than those with COPD. Reversibility testing will identify whether you derive benefit from the drug so you should ask your respiratory team about this. However, you should first have your inhaler technique checked. A high percentage of people do not use them correctly. The best method is to use a spacer e.g. Aerochamber.
Nebulisers, tubing, pots, mouthpieces are not usually provided by the NHS but the drugs to use in the machine are.
I have Empysema. I only find a neb helps when I get a chest infection. Then I use. 4/6 times a day. 20 Mins ago. It. Helps. Losses chest and then I can with a lot of effort. Get. Crap of my chest. As. For. When Iam just. My. Normal self wheezing huffing gasping. Not a sausage. Hopefully in time there will be new drugs but. To be honest. The drugs they use. Are. More or less what have been about for. A. Very long time. My. Illness. Is. Not. Really. Improved by meds. Maybe they help prevent only if I have correct. Rescue pack. Antibiotics all ways insist on 625 mg augmented tabs. Inhalers. Mainly preventers. Do nothing I can do and have. 10 / 15/ /20/ 25. Puffs. On venterlin. And Nish. Well. Put that in your pipe and dwell. Cause. I really wish I did have a preventer. BW. Paul. Nlondon

Hi I have a nebuliser which I use about 4 times daily. I get a prescription from my GP for salbutamol sulfate which is a concentrated form of ventolin. Provided you can get your GP to presribe it then you should find them useful. If you use anything less then you will probably not find a benefit. Speak with your GP about the prescription before buying one. They are around £95 from Amazon.

Hi. I have to use a nebuliser too sometimes. I have asthma and bronchiectasis. When rough and dont feel ventolin inhaler helping i use it and do find it aids my breathing.
I have been taking Anoro Ellipta for over a year. I find I don't use my Ventolin as much as much as when I was talking Spiriva and Symbicort.
Hello 2manycigs .
I have been wondering the same thing. My doctor asked me if I want to use a nebulizer. I am mulling it over. I kind of feel like I want to wait a bit more as after the nebulizer , I have no more treatment options. I hope if you decide to use it, it will help.
Take care.

I have a nebulizer & it uses the same medication as my Combivent inhaler. It caused extreme weakness, trembling almost to the point of seizures. I finally gave it up & just dealt with being unable to breathe most of the time. I’ve tried 02 & that is not the answer either. I finally got RX for Symbicort , which finally seems to work a bit but I still need the inhaler of Combivent once or twice daily. Any light activity & I need the inhaler. Anything with Albuterol in it is gonna cause the shakiness for me, but in nebulizer form it was much much worse. I probably get more into my lungs with it. I would sure recommend you have a trial period before investing in the meds & machine.
