PR Day is here

Morning all, hope you are all ok, and those of you that are feeling rough soon get better.

Having had my one hour induction, this afternoon is my first PR session. I’m a little nervous for some reason. If anything, I think that might be because I have been feeling a bit low and run down lately.

Fingers crossed that I can get through the whole course without any unexpected hiccups.

Apparently I will be the youngest one there this afternoon. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing 😛

Pulmonary Rehabilitation. It is a 7 week course, twice a week for two hours, where they try and get you fitter and more knowledgable through exercise and discussions with various experts 😎

Thanks for your reply. Now I understand what it involves. Could you post after the session how you got on? Thinking about you.

You’ll find it very beneficial, I’m sure, Brian.

My OH is nearing the end of a similar course. He thought he wouldn’t cope with this ‘gym’ stuff, having never tried it before, and it took him a while to accept that a polo shirt and his joggers hiding in the drawer might be the best kit, rather than his shirt and jeans.

At first he went a bit mad and came home exhausted, the physio apparently said ‘Pace yourself!’ but he thought that was something to do with the Tour de France! He settled down into enjoying it properly by about the third week. He’s thinking of joining another course now, when they have a vacancy. It really doesn’t matter about age and ability, they’re not highlighted at all, you just do what you can.

All the best.....let us know how it goes 🚴‍♂️

Good luck and wishing you all the best. These PR courses are supposedly very beneficial so I hope it’ll be helpful for you.

I had my flu vaccine this morning and someone there accusingly asked me why I was getting the vaccine because I’m too young. It’s nice to be called young sometimes! I said that I’m actually very old but I have a good moisturising regime. He just looked at me like I’m crazy. My humour is not appreciated by everyone!

His question should have warned you that he was a miserable old git, HH. 😄

I started 2 weeks ago took my hubby with me for support. Little bit nervous to begin with then I looked around and saw other people in the same boat and they helped me with talking and helping to understand about this copd. Go to other classes especially if you suffer from anxiety and panic attacks. A small group but I learning how to cope with my breathing ask your respertory nurse at doctors I live in Birmingham and the group is called FAB. But may be a different name were you live. These groups do help. Good luck

I was lucky enough to get on a course here this year as the waiting list in the London area is very long.

Nothing to fear, and everything to gain if you want.

It’s a great resource and everyone on the course will have a chronic condition of sorts, so you are among “ friends.”

Don’t overdo the first session of exercising though or your body will remind you until the next class🤣🤣🤣

Hope that you got on well Brian - I had my first course earlier this year and everyone was so friendly (and also nervous) but I was quite sad when it finished. But I am keeping in touch with another lady that I met there and we have gone for a coffee.

Take care Pat x
