Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is an asbestos-related cancer affecting the linings of the lungs or abdomen. It is usually caused by exposure to asbestos dust - when a person breathes in asbestos fibres, these can work their way into the pleura, which is the membrane which protects the lungs from damage by the ribs during the act of breathing. The asbestos fibres can damage the pleura’s cells and can cause changes which, it is thought, make them into cancerous cells.

Around 200 people in Scotland are diagnosed with mesothelioma each year.

Even though Tayside Bronchiectasis Support Group is by definition a narrow-focus set up we have invited a speaker from a local asbestos action group to speak to us about asbestosis. There are respiratory similarities but not as serious as cancer, and some of the connections are linked to breathlessness and other breathing difficulties.

This should be an engrossing presentation and I anticipate a deal of questions and fact finding from our members. I shall keep Health Unlocked readers informed after the 28th of February 2018. If anyone has a question that you think I should ask then please reply to this announcement and I will do my best to raise it with the speaker from Tayside Asbestos Action.

Thanks cofdrop. i always enjoy your support, and will give feedback after the meeting.

Terry.

I have question can ask .. I have already asked NHS Digital & Scotland’s Popular Asbestos Surport Group With NO answers.

There are 600 thousand Alzheimer’s Dementia suffers and am sure just like my dad THERE must be more than just my dad with Asbestos Mesothelioma that my dad’s lung doctor miscategorised as lung cancer given he’s Alzheimer’s Dementia.

Clearly given age group of Alzheimer’s Dementia suffers and shear numbers THERE must be more than my dad who as developed mesothelioma and been in contact with ACM that as caused is cancer.

Thanks for this Jeff. I am sorry to hear that you got nowhere with the asbestos support group. I shall raise that unresponsiveness as part of a broader question about Alzheimer's Dementia masking mesothelioma. I am not sure what the speaker will respond with but I imagine that he will refer to industrial injuries tribunals. Naturally I will not give any names as to my source.

I know if i had not pulled up doctor about where my dads cancer was THEY would of just said nodule lung cancer.

From my understanding any cancer tbat grows from lung wall into lung IS not a nodule.

I was given some good advice AS to where to go next.

One will be nice they love publishing stuff BE intresting to see what there prescribinng criteriea is
