Winter abroad

I have Bronchiectasis and really struggle with the winters in England. I live on a houseboat. We are thinking if spending winters abroad somewhere like the Algarve. Has anybody done this? Does it help?

You're in luck!

Canalchris did exactly what you're thinking of. Put his name in the search bar and you should get all his old posts and news. I believe it was the best thing he did for his health, his wife and his dog Toby went too 😎😎😎. P

A programn on renting abroad in wintertime started recently on bbc 1 at 3.45. Some places look terrific and prices reasonable when you consider cost of heating etc during the cold and icy months.

I don't know about the Algarve but southern Italy can also be freezing cold and damp in winter. But on the whole I suppose the weather is gentler.

I would suggest you look around my favourite place is tunisia. For around £900 you can stay in a 4star hotel half board for a month.

Hi watefall1950, I took my Mum to Tunisia one year on a standby and hated it, I thought the place dirty and as two females we couldnt go out on our own, and Mum got robbed in the medina, the beech had beetles which horrified my Mum, we couldnt wait to get home. Sorry to be so down on your favourtie place but there are safer and nicer places to go for the winter.

You must have had a bad experience. I took my daughter to Tunisia about 10 years ago. We had an amazing time. People were lovely, very friendly, hotel spotless and we had no problems going out alone even at night time. We felt very safe. The strangest thing we encountered was the taxi we were riding in pulled over to collect an additional fare on way to our destination. I’d go back again if sorting oxygen wasn’t such a pain!

We went to Tunisia a few years ago and didn't encounter any problems. There were lots of Brits in the hotel who were there for three month stays. They had quite a social club going and it seemed like a great idea to me. The weather was amazing for February and we were able to get out and about ok. (For 'we' read 'husband and me') . xx Moy

hi waterfall- no I haven't gone abroad in winter for a long spell but I do try to go to a warmer climate for at least 2 weeks and I find it helps me. The Caribbean is my favourite. x
