Sleeping with COPD

What do you do at night-time,

When you cannot sleep?

I've never been much interested,

In counting loads of sheep.

I lie there warm and cozy,

Considering my lot.

Are there things I should have done?

Or are there things forgot?

Now my chest is wheezing,

I think it's trying to talk.

And I need the bathroom.

So I get up for a walk.

Since I'm in the bathroom,

I'll have a huff and cough.

In trying to cough the phlegm out,

I'm nearly taking off!

Back inside the bedroom

Give the Ventolin a puff

I get to sleep a little more,

But it never is enough.

Pete usually goes downstairs and watches tv. He sleeps in his chair sometimes or comes back to bed if he has the puff to do so. Xxx 😘

I switch on my trusty iPad

And click on our HU

There's often someone posting

Who's awake like me and you.

I'll have a good cough and a bit of a choke

Wander about the bedroom

Not knowing what to do

Perhaps a warm milky drink will do the job

Settle back down to sleep

Then jump out of bed as the night cramps start

Oh for one nights uninterrupted sleep

But tonight its to late, the birds are awake

Oh well I'll try again tonight

I'm getting a bit more sleep at night lately ( touch wood) as I have stopped cat napping during the daytime. I don't know if you do snooze in the daytime, if so give it a try.

in reply toGrayjay

I must admit cat napping is probably the main cause at this time of the year. The days are so short and often don’t even get properly light at all. Normally i’m too busy doing things to nap.

When I can't sleep, I read. Till I fall asleep. Nothing else works. Lovely poem. And I don't know why you are the "ex bard " Don, your poems are so good. Once a bard, always a bard. xx 🌷

in reply toCaspiana

I’m ‘ex’ because I closed my original account, Cas, and when I opened my current one I wanted to remind folk who I was to avoid confusion. There are people as good and better than me at rhymes on here anyway. 😉 Reading in bed makes it even harder for me to switch my mind off.

Horrible isn't it and makes the night time hours seem even longer? I swear by my Kindle light as I can download free books, and read any time during the night without the need to put a light on. Does not interfere with my other half at all so is a god send to me. Worth every penny

I’m a big fan of Kindles too, it delivers my morning newspaper without fail every morning. I cannot resist buying the things when new ones are launched, I am on my 5th one now. However, I’ve never been able to enjoy reading in bed for some reason. It tends to make my mind more active just when I’m trying to switch it off. 😟
