Hi all, hope we are all good today, I have a question please, I've only recently been diagnosed with bronchiectasis and copd and asthma and I have noticed from a lot of discussions on here talk about how winter affects us. As I'm new to all this can I ask how people are in the summer, does it make breathing worst or better xx

Summer different to winter?
Hello Usgang . Summer in itself is a lovely season. I love it. But summer with high humidity levels makes breathing so much harder. Our summers here in Japan are generally extremely humid. I suppose when it's not and humid, our body works harder to cool down causing us to get breathless . Doesn't help when we are already using all our energy to breathe. The cold dry winter is also hard in us . When the air is dry and cokd, our airways narrow somewhat however, keeping the neck warm with a scarf helps me. Generally, the summer hear and humidity is harder in me personally.
Hoping you are doing okay.

I prefer the summer months though like Cas I don't like days with high humidity.
I think atmospheric pressure plays a part. I occasionally find breathing much more difficult when the pressure is low and then easier as it pressure rises.
I get the same as cas when its humid I breathe shallow which makes it worse and end up hypoventilating.if its humid I wont go outside think pollen has a role in it 2
The colds and coughs are rife in winter and that's the worse thing, not so much about in the summer. I have asthma and generally am really well spring and summer, it's October I usually start to wheeze more and end up with colds, but I've got kids too doesn't help. I ply us all with vitamins and that makes a good difference.
I'm not a fish I can't breath water...high moisture in the air is horrible
Hi Usgang,
I prefer spring and autumn .Not too cold nor too hot. The pollen needs to be watched out for of course If I had to choose between Summer or Winter I would prefer Summer..

For the past two years I have suffered multiple exacerbations and infections through the summer and have been better from November onwards. I have asthma, COPD and bronchiectasis. xxMoy
Hi happy Jo I was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension 3 weeks ago I also have mitral stenosis and copd and bronchitisis.... This has came as such a shock didn't even know I had a bad heart. I joined the pha group online and from what I have read it seems that treatment comes from specialist hospital etc which in Northern Ireland there isn't one. I've basically been left high and dry there was talk of transplant, body might not be be fit enough, quality of live verses quantity of live., not good life expectancy I could go on but really I was wondering how do you handle it all I feel like the real me has died to be replaced by this miserable scared person whose petrified of life its awful feeling plus any tips u can give me would be greatly appreciated. Hope I didn't ramble too much I have that tendency plus look after yourself and keep well

Seems everyone is different must depend on where you live environmental factors and what specific bugs are floating around wherever you live interesting though I live in Belfast n apparently we have the worst congestion in the UK 🇬🇧 and to be honest I never noticed any difference summer or winter I just felt constantly ill, think the longest in the past 18mths I've went without being ill is 6wks and then usually at least 6wks to recover and now they have found a hole host of things wrong with me. So my advice is stock your body up on vitamins, minerals etc that boost your immune system eat a healthy diet and try light exercise...... The exercise I'm terrible at I'm too scared incase I can't breathe plus I'm lazy lol 😂

Loretta that's exactly how I feel, if I'm not too tired to exercise as all I seem to do is sleep, I'm worried exercise will set me off, guess I'm just going to have to try different things as I'm new to all this xx
The mind play dangerous games with our health. The fear of being ill dying intrudes on everything we do. You could have a bit of depression anxiety too which makes me sleep a lot just so I'm not thinking. Try n be positive and ask your GP about pulmonary rehab it's really good. Also meditation is good something I've just started but enjoying hope your keeping well xo
