Hello all not posted for a while but just wanted to let you all know that I am around and I do read your posts just a bit down in the dumps right now at my failure to stop the cigarettes 😢 I give up for weeks then start again I am so fed up with myself that I have felt that I don’t deserve to have your kindness and support for this horrid disease that I have brought on myself and continue to make worse , please forgive me for being so dramatic but to be honest this is truly how I feel
Love to you all

You and I both know the answer is to keep trying - every ciggie you DON'T smoke is an achievement. I am only just getting to grips with a future dealing with COPD (moderate/severe) best I have done is 29 days - then a sneaky one - followed by ... 40 free etc
We can only keep trying- don't feel bad - just try to do better each time and forgive yourself if you fail - but IMPORTANT - don't stop trying! - best of luck
Hello Cales. Lovely to hear from you, and please stop beating yourself up. I should imagine that many of the members have gone through what you're experiencing now, me included. My doctor recommended that I did it gradually by cutting down by 1 or 2 cigarettes per week, and that worked better for me. Every cigarette you don't smoke is a bonus. Be kind to yourself, and good luck. XXX
I cut down in steps, first, not smoking until midday, then not smoking till 6pm and then setting the date 1st August 1985 when I was no longer a smoker. I also overdosed on gruesome pictures and articles about the damage smoking causes. And I made myself associate cigarette smoke with wanting to vomit. I identified all my favourite cigs of the day and changed how I behaved - eg my favourite one was with a mug of coffee after my evening meal; so now I don't drink coffee and I do the washing up instead of sitting.
It took several attempts for me to give up, and cold turkey didn't work for me bu this did. Good luck to you, cales, and keep trying.
Oh cales . Please don't say such a thing. You will always get support whether you've given up or not! Unconditional support. 🌹 Its understandable how you feel because you feel like you aren't making leeway. I understand. * hug * It will be okay.
HUGS for you cales. Surely when you are struggling is when you need more support not less? Have you tried the Quit Support group on HU for extra help? healthunlocked.com/quitsupport
I have never smoked but my brothers did so I know how hard it is. Please don't be too downhearted and don't chastise yourself. Remember Jiminy Cricket- pick yourself up, dust yourself down, and start all over again (smug little beast!) Good luck xx
Cales,We don't give love and support to the perfect people who have done no wrong and live impeccable lives, they don't need it.we all have weaknesses and failings, and when we lapse or fail we pick ourselves up and open the window on this world and find a bunch of people who still want to support us.so break out that smile, and don't stay in the dark.............love skis and scruffy x
Sorry you are upset with yourself because of quitting , but don't give up you'll make it one day I tried more than once before succeeding as have many others. Wait till you feel more able and try again. Maybe it might work better if you joined other quitters in a group, so you can share any doubts ect. But don't beat yourself up over it time will give you the willpower to make it.
I can't count the times I tried to stop smoking but I didn't stop until I was ready to, there was a little switch in my head that clicked off that's when I stopped. That switch in your head will turn off for you too, meanwhile just keep trying. Lilian xxxxxx
Hi stop Beating yourself up you will sucssed I am sure of that one day you will have a ciggeratte and you will just know it is your last one meanwhile have you tried vaping only way I could do it its the hand to mouth. Action that I. Missed. Best wishes Margaret x
Please don't get Down, Sorry I am this late sending a reply. Only just read your Post. I too struggled over the years, it got to the point were I Coughed till my Chest Burnt and my copd was getting worse. I, along with Family Members decided to try and STOP Together, with the Help of E. CIgs, 1 Real One, then an E.cig to replace the Nasty Tobacco.. It Worked for all of us, Been without "Fags" Ugly Word, for 4 Years now, surprising how Quickly The Cough Disappears. and it enabled me to go on the Transplant List. Go and Buy yourself an E CIG, Ignore silly comments on the Health Risk, They are far better than the Real McCoy. Good Luck Hun. XXX Carolina.
What works for other addictions is to turn to a Higher Power in your life. "Something or someone greater than you," and ask for help and believe! Also, have a support system i.e. Someone who has been there and is recovering or recovered!
