Hi. I have emphysema and have been on braltus for two months. My congestion has almost disappeared so should I continue taking braltus?

Hi

Braltus is a long acting 24-hour, anticholinergic bronchodilator. Similar to Spiriva taken regularly on a daily basis.

Only stop taking if recommended by your GP.

My GP changed my Spiriva to Braltus for my Bronchiectasis. I like it much more than the old one.

Do you get a dry mouth Poems? I had to stop taking Spiriva, and later Seebri (same class of drugs) as I couldn't speak my mouth would be so dry.

I can't say for you Karenblue - could be perhaps, but best to check with your doctor. I think it can happen when you don't have a lot of mucus in the first place, so it works on your mucus membranes generally.

See mrsmummy's reply. It works, if you stop using it the symptoms will probably return, so you will need to use it again. Medication you are given to alleviate symptoms are usually for very long term use unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

If taking this inhaler has made you feel better then you need to consider that you may feel worse again if you stop. Most of us take inhalers permanently (though they change sometimes) and I would not advise stopping any without first consulting your doctor.

Braltus as Stone says is a long acting and long term bronchodilator medicine and does what it says on the tin,"long term" maintenance of your lung condition and you will find that you are advised to consult with your gp/consultant if you wish to stop them or change them if you are having issues with side effects.Glad to hear they are having a good theraputive effect on your condition.stick with them if you can.........skisxx
