Hi all - new here,

COPD patient - changed from Spiriva to Braltus (approx 1 month ago), developed large red, itchy hives on backs of hands. Has anyone else experienced this following a change to Braltus?

No. I haven't. I actually thought it better. The trouble I had with it was the machine. It didn't puncture the capsules properly

Hi Zenga, I've not tried Braltus, I was offered the spiriva respimat when spiriva capsules were stopped, the Braltus was the other alternative.

Check with your doctor the skin irritation could be caused by something other than the Braltus. Have you been gardening without gloves maybe and touched something, eaten unripen fruit, cleaning old dusty shed or garage. etc.

How is your breathing on Braltus, has that improved or worsened? That would be an indication too if the medicine is or not suiting you.

Thanks Bkin...

Yeah, poss could be from garden or outbuildings too, although I always try to be careful to use mask, gloves etc. Seen doc and he is seeking advice from my local hospital dermo team too. Was just wondering had anyone had the same problem following a change to Braltus, maybe would have explained it. Will wait and see... Thanks again, Zen.

Hope its sorted soon, with Braltus and skin irritation.

Others could still add to this post regarding skin irritation after using Braltus.

emc say is rare, uncommon and unknown: (scroll down to 4.8 undesirable affects)

Hi Zengam

I would have thought it unlikely that Briatus would cause the reaction you display, however we are all different and medication can effect people in different ways.I was presented with a replacement to a previous inhaler and having been told that there were no contra indicationsI was somewhat surprised to suffer a period of 6 hours when I was too dizzy to drive.I persisted and by day 3 my body became "acclimatised" to the new inhaler for the record that was Spiriva upgraded to umeclidinium bromide.I have to say the new inhaler is far more effective than Spiriva was.To be honest I have never heard of your new inhaler maybe yours is the same as mine but you have used the manufacturers title for the product?

Urticaria (also known as hives) is listed as a side effect on the patient information leaflet.

I was changed from Spiriva to Braltus last November and 2 weeks later started having episodes of tachycardia (listed side effect), first one I ended up in A and E, second one ambulance was called but I declined another trip to A and E. I've had 8 episodes altogether and was changed back to Spiriva as it was thought the Braltus triggered it. I've now managed to go 4 months without another episode.
