I went to the Active for Health class on monday to begin my rehabilitation or so I thought. I went by myself with my wheelchair. The taxi driver was great he folded my wheelchair up and put it in the boot. i got to the place. The driver set my wheelchair back up. i self propelled into centre managed to use disabled toilet and get through necessary doors. i sat in waiting room and waited. the group leader appeared i with all the other new people completed the paperwork. then i was informed i was too disabled for the class and that i was being sent back to my referer. i was broken! (emotionally and physically)
no recognition that I had got there or that i had tried or put effort in. that was it back to the referer.
i got home and tried to ring the referer but no luck in clinics all day.
You've been badly let down. It's terrible after all your effort. I would certainly asked the referer for an explanation and payment for your taxi fares.
That's a terrible experience you have been through. No wonder you were very upset. You did well in getting there and then to be turned away is just heartless.
You do have the satisfaction of what you did achieve though. That in it's self is worth remembering in a very positive way. It's their problem and how they intend to resolve this for you is also their problem.
I'm unsure who it is you have tried to contact but that too hasn't helped the situation. Ultimately you will get through to someone and let's hope everything is resolved quickly and someone apologises and recognises it's not good enough to treat people in this way!
What a load of poppycock, absolutely outrageous. You had made there, on your own which was a brilliant achievement given how so many are so frightened just to leave their own home. Exercises can be done sitting down! They are denying you an essential part of your treatment. I think that you really do have a case to make a complaint. This is so wrong.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation is not all about exercise, only 50% in fact. The other half is all about education.
I don't know which area you are from but in my classes we had two ppl in wheelchairs and they did exercises sitting down with small weights and very short walks as and when they wanted to or could..... that is ridiculous you were told that after being referred by another professional who knows you are capable of doing certain things ...brilliant you got there independently and sad you were told too disabled which I hasten to add is the very wrong choice of wording ....sorry you feel so bad over it some ppl need to think before they use choice of word xxx
That is an utter disgrace. It shows nothing but laziness and disrespect on the part of those taking the class. Do make sure that you make a formal complaint. Our taxes pay these people to take the classes.
That was a dreadful let down see if any chair Excercise Classes near you they did help me an awful lot XC
Don't be down-hearted, JulieVictoria, you have proved to yourself that you can be independent, which is more than any class you attended could have done. Congratulations!
Disgusting. For once I am lost for words. Totally uncaring, unprofessional. However on a brighter note hopefully you will get someone far better next time. Keep your chin up its not your fault that they put the founder member of the village idiots society in charge of this class!
I Feel so sad and Mad for you disgusting Behaviour By so called professionals You made the effort to get there your Referer must have thought you capable to recommend you I am fuming for you something we none of us need is extra stress make sure your Referer Knows how Badly you have Been treated Take care your a Brave Lady .
i think to be honest the referrer had not read my medical notes as i have recently moved house and the referrer just assumed i was just an asthmatic and nothing else. the fact i am recovering from a pnenothorax and type 1 brittle asthma along with addisons disease was not on her mind. but i have raised the issure with the practice manager.
