Hugs Time2Drink. Is it just the beginning of cataracts? They usually wait for quite a few years before operating. My brother-in-law had his cataracts operated on this year. He quickly recovered and his eyesight has really improved.

They will operate once cataracts are severe enough. Is done under local anaesthetic so lung condition isn't a factor. Is very straightforward procedure nowadays.

One thing to mention- well done for going to optician. Wasn't so long ago you were struggling to leave the house for anything! Take pride in how far you have come and how far you are still going!!

They can get it wrong, you know. I was told some years ago that I had the start of a cataract but every eye test since has been clear. Funnily enough, they were promoting a particular lense coating that was supposed to be helpful for people with cataracts. Not that I'm suggesting foul play here, of course.

Best wishes to you too. I was impressed that you managed to travel for the eye test. Great improvement on a few weeks ago, I think. Well done for getting there. x Moy

Brave enough to go to next town though - still a great achievement. I'm struggling to go out at the moment due to vertigo problems so I know what an effort it takes. Take the compliment and pat yourself on your back (if it doesn't make you cough - lol!) x Moy

Good morning T2D and this failing eyesight seems to be catching a few of us out recently. I've read up a little on the chances of people using steroids for long periods can seem, according to some people with lots of letters after their name,to make your eyesight start to fail and cataracts being the end result! Great as if we've not got enough going on!! However your "missing" appointment was just blooming typical, don't you think? I'd be a rich woman if I had £5 for each bungled appointment over the last few years! You've been so busy of late, are you off anywhere interesting today? Frank and you must be so pleased with your progress.

Steroid medication can exacerbate cataracts, they did for me. I had an annual eye test and was told that I had very early signs of cataracts in both eyes but it would take years for them to mature. had several months of prednisolone over the following year and when I had my next annual eye test (1 year on) both cataracts had fully ripened and the optician referred me to the hospital. Had my first procedure done 2 months later and the second eye a year later. I was awake for both ops so no general anaesthetic was required. I was one of the biggest babies were needles are involved but felt chuffed to bits that I sailed through the procedures with just the occasional squeeze of the nurses hand if I felt a coughing spell coming on. Since then I have had laser treatments on both eyes again was awake throughout.

I must admit I am a glass half full sort of girl, so look for the positives 1) dust bunnies under the furniture can party to their hearts content and 2) the roads of the British Isles have become much safer now I cant drive. I look upon these set backs with gritted teeth, hoist my knickers over the top of my trousers, put my theme from 'superman' on and zip up and down my stairs on my brand new stair lift.

Hi sue wow you are brave being awake and having your eyes fiddled with I've always been a bit iffy with eyes hate the thought of them been touched I had a hair in my eye a few years back and I was like a quivering mess .I like your attitude could do with a slice of it myself how are you finding the strair lift I couldn't do without mine just wish the living room was nearer the stairs I don't know about you but I have to go through the kitchen and then passage to get to mine I said to Frank could do with knocking a wall out have to plan bathroom trips when oven or hob not on enjoy stairlift if that's the right thing to say Best wishes Margaret
