Weird....

I haven't been here for a long time but just wanted to say that since January I have been going to Slimming World and consequently have lose 4 stone. On this journey I found myself using my inhalers less and less to a point where I might use the Ventolin once a week. During a visit to the GP's to see the nurse I discussed this with her and her reply was "I wonder if you even had it in the first place" I am going to see how I go and will be interested to see what my breathing results are when I go for my annual check up. My theory is fat pressing on the diaphragm. Anything to save me of the misery of a chest infection lasting a fortnight. What are your thoughts on this?

It certainly is a problem when everything pushes up on the diamphragm .The lungs don't work to there full capacity under pressure and this can cause lots of problems. Hey might I add well done to you losing the weight that's fantastic and the fact your reducing med use as well....keep going 🌸🌼🌼 Angie xxx

Carry extra weight definitely places extra strain on a number of organs. No matter what the test results are you are feeling better and using your inhalers less. That can only be a good thing.

Well done for losing so much weight! I think that has certainly helped the situation. However, as you've suggested, I think seeing what happens when you get a cold, or faced with your usual triggers will give you a better picture. As will spirometry, and a reversibility test.

Very good news for you. And again congratulations on the spectacular weight loss.

Oh well done, that's a fantastic result. The results of your check up should be interesting, but in the meantime - your theory makes sense to me.

Well done for losing the weight! I have lost 10lbs this year and even that small ammount has made a difference to my breathing, so I think you have a good theory.

I certainly do believe that excess weight causes bad breathing but it becomes a viscious circle when you can't walk far cos you can't breath so there is the exercise out the window, as for the diet, some of it can still be expensive and if you don't work the cost is too much, but well done you and the 2 friends I know who have lost over 4 stone each .. although I do feel they are a bit obsessive with it ... if it works ... do it ... you have proved it makes a difference. I also see a lot of people on mobility scooters who are obese which proves the point of lack of exercise. xx
