Prednisolone: WANTED FOR THEFT!

Prednisolone, also known as the 'sleep thief' is at large! He came round to my house last night and the night before and so far he's taken about 8 hours of sleep!

Has anyone else seen him recently? If you have please let me know how to chase him away!

I hate the little swines. So much so that when unable to avoid them I set my alarm for 5am to take them very early. It did help with sleeping at night without the palpitations.

Hi Thanks that's very interesting. I take mine about 9:00 in the morning as I was thinking I'd sleep better. Well that clearly hasn't worked!

Might try a different time. After taking mind my hands shake a little for about half an hour then I'm ok.

Thank you for the tip x

You're welcome. I believe we're all different. I've a friend who delights in being px prednisolone, call them his happy pills because he feels fantastic on them. I feel absolutely dreadful on them, like I'm going mad, hence the 5am experiment. Can usually go back to sleep this early but if it was 6 I'd probably wake & be tired for the rest of the day.

Good luck. P

That's good news. I think I'll be staying on them but no idea how it all works really. New diagnosis. Glad your lungs feel better. I'd stay awake forever for that feeling x

Fool him and take them when you go to bed at night. This has worked for me on two occasions.

The Devil's Tick Tacks. 😠 They are horrible. I so understand. I needed to take sleeping pills to help me sleep for awhile. Now that I am being tapered off them, they are putting up a mighty struggle. Most recently causing my legs to itch a lot. I will help you find him Georgina and then we can throttle him. 😊 xx

I have only taken them twice to help with the evil hamsters in my chest! First time the Doctor gave me 6 a day and I was really buzzing and had real problems sleeping! Second time I had a talk with my Doctor. I am not the biggest bloke in the world and asked to be given a smaller dose of 4 a day. Which did the job and allowed me to sleep. Depending on your size weight etc I think those of smaller build can have a smaller dose.

I agree. It seems odd to me as last year I started with 9 (90mg) a day and didn't get my sleep stolen. At the moment I'm doing as I'm told to try and get myself sorted. Coughed for 18 months! x

Oh yes! I know what you mean. Palpitations, mind racing, shaky hands and restless.

I'm taking 8 pills for 5 days so do my best to consume them as early as possible followed by large drink, at least 2 bananas (to replace potassium) and a handful of roast almonds-because that tastes good.

On the other hand, they do help me get through my 15:30-23:00 shift in care!

Morning Elizabeth

Your feast with the tablets sounds good to me! Might try that. I'm on them for months and maybe much longer.

Well done for getting through such long shifts x

Hi GeorginaS.

I don't envy you your long-term use of wicked P.

I hope you're on a low dose.

Take care

Like Billiejean_2 I take mine at bedtime, and I get to sleep quite quickly. I read (may be wrong) that the 'awake effect' lasts for 24 hours, so if I take them at bedtime the dose from the night before has worn off and it takes a couple of hours to kick in again, by which time I am asleep.

Hi Georgina I had prednisolone for the last 12 weeks off and on but I haven't experienced any lack of sleep mind you I was taking BOOTS own herbal sleeping tablets.

Thank you. I think I'll be taking them for s very long time. Have to wait and see. I've increased my amitriptyline and that's helped. Stopped me also needing the loo at night too. Great bonus 😀
