Summer Whine.

The temperature is falling,

And what is this I find?

I'm a pound or two lighter,

And have a little less behind.

Time now to start roaming,

To get back up to strength.

It doesn't do to sit around,

At home for any length.

I'm going to see where Compo lived,

And Sid and Ivy's caff.

Where the other people lived,

Who used to make me laugh.

What do you mean? Make you laugh? That was serious reality TV and documentary. We are all like that up here. Wait and see.

Loved that programme - and all of the characters, just brilliant! Enjoy yourself Don but - if what Katinka says is true you'd better watch out for unusual and unexpected vehicles speeding down the hills. Wouldn't want your lovely camper van getting bashed by a passing bathtub - though it might bring forth a few stirring (if repeatable) rhymes.🤔😳

Thanks Magpuss, I shall go trying to remember what it was like when it first started. I stopped watching shortly after Compo died, but if Kate is right that won't be a problem. ;-) Auntie Wainwright used be live near me.

Aunty Wainwright was like my grandma who used to reuse old xmas and birthday cards by taking the inserts out,but then again like me she was carrying the surname Wainwright,i always thought we got that name because our clan made Hay Wains but now i realise its because we are thrifty. As my dad used to say" wilful waste brings woeful want".

hope you met the spirit of the recently departed Peter Sallis and all the other cast that have left us.I did'n.t appreciate the humour of last of the summer wine until i aged and then realised how clever it really was yet amazingly my dear Cecilia who was south american latched onto it from the beginning and would'n,t miss an episode.Alas we are running out of the true British greats in both humour and acting?

If you're a fan, then you'll love it Don. I made a little pilgrimage to Holmfirth during a trip to York in 1999. Caught two buses on a wet Saturday morning and was blown away by the journey, never mind the thrill of finally reaching Holmfirth and sitting on Nora Batty's steps :)

The series is on at 1.00 PM Mon-Fri on Drama, a station that does re-runs of old favourites. Last Thursday, they showed the last episode of the series and on Friday, started all over again with the first episode. If I'm at home I always turn it on and always enjoy it. It's a kind of TV Valium for me, really relaxing.

I visited Holmfirth a second time, with my husband and youngest son in 2003 and may do again - health and everything else allowing - this September.

I hope you have a wonderful trip to Holmfirth and be sure to tell us all about it when you get back.

Enjoy !

Thanks for mentioning the Drama TV channel BJ, I didn't know that! My wife bought Series 1 to 4 of LOTSW on DVD years ago which I started watching last night for the first time. I had a very stressful job when the series was first broadcast and it was as you say, 'a kind of Valium' very relaxing. I can now watch the whole 31 series, though at the time I didn't agree with their decision to carry on by replacing characters with what I regarded as unsuitable actors.

I've bought some of the box sets too over the years but still watch the episode on Drama when it's convenient. It is difficult to accept the newer characters and towards the end Cleggy ( Peter Sallis) is the only one left. But there's still the Howard-Pearl-Marina saga plus some of the other less important characters. But if you start it on Drama now, it will be best part of a year before the newer episodes start. It really makes my lunchtime to sit down with a cup of tea and LOTST.

Din, I forgot to mention that Drama repeat each day's episode at 6.40 PM. So if you miss it at lunchtime, you can catch it later.

Have a wonderful time. I live in Texas,. Ex-pat,. My husband is American and we love last of the summer wine. My hubby orders the DVDs off line. Did you know they were still making the series up until a few years ago. This series as well as Only fools and horses have us rolling

Thank you Nicholatracy . I did know that the series went on until number 31, but I had lost interest in watching the broadcasts by then. Now that I can watch them anew, I think I'll be a bit more sympathetic towards the new characters that were brought in. There doesn't seem to the talent around these days to match those old programmes.
