Hi all.

Quick question,chesty cough,productive,awful taste upon coughing.

Do I start tabs?

I've just had a 5 day course of steroids for rheumatoid flare up.

Do I start ab's or no?

Personally? I would start them and contact GP tomorrow.

Yes, start your abs now, a foul taste/smell when coughing is indicative of an infection, it will do no harm and leaving it could. See your GP asap and don't forget that you need them replacing.

Hi if you cough up coloured phelgm it is an infection. You can still have one without this but you would be feeling ill. If in doubt though take them and check with doctor tomorrow.

My lung doctor told me to take antibiotics only if I have a temperature of 38c or over. Or if I have several symptoms at the same time, such as nasty sputum, breathlessness, lack of appetite, feeling unwell, chills, etc. If you have already started antibiotics, you should finish the course to ensure any surviving bacteria become resistant to that antibiotic.
