Steam room?

I've recently joined a health club to use the swimming pool and there is a steam room available there.. wondered whether I should try it or not? Someone mentioned on here that these can harbour pseudos and cause infection is that right? Don't want to risk another infection just when I'm starting to feel a little better!

I don't use steam rooms, for the reason you mention. I worry the steam can encourage viruses.

Hello Knicho . Do you mean a sauna? I don't know what a steam room is. Anything steamy plays havoc with my breathing but that may be just me. I think that unlike hot tubs high sauna temperatures kill most germs. Maybe good to check with your doctor. Enjoy your swimming. 😁

My gym has a sauna and steam room. The steam room often has eucalyptus oil in the water and I find it a wonderful decongestant, even without the eucalyptus ( not everyone likes it) I hope this helps

Avoid if you've got Raynaud's Phenomenon, peripheral vascular disease or diabetes - poor circulation in the feet can lead to problems.

I love steam rooms. Good for sinus problems and I find the heat easier to take than Saunas. Never had a problem.

I have bronchiecstasis and I go to aqua aerobics and then either the steam room or dry sauna (just a heated cabin) and have had no ill effects whatsoever. Years ago it used to be recommended that when a child had an asthma attack they be put in a room with a boiling kettle as the steam would help, don't know what they do nowadays but I don't think a steam room should cause any problems for other lung conditions rather the opposite. Take care everyone, Lizzy x

During my lung function test on Tuesday I was asked if anything makes my breathing worse I said yes when I'm in the shower, she said steam should make your breathing easier.

I think we are all different some find breathing difficult in winter some in summer I go swimming and found it really helpful

I'm better in summer definitely and swimming has really helped me so I guess I just need to give the steam a go and see how I get on

Thanks x
