Diet
There is a very good weight loss site on here which might be able to help as well.
Yes thank you
Sorry you obviously knew about that.
I did but it's ok
I can recommend slimming world.. I've done many diets in my time but find this more successful as you can eat as much as like of certain foods including things like pasta, potatoes, fruit, veg and lean meats. It also helps me knowing I'm going to be weighed each week!
Good luck to you Darren.
Wishing you well with the diet.
Don't think of it as 5st Darren, just take it one day at a time. Remember every journey begins with a single step. I bet you'll feel a lot better even after half a stone!
Thank you
I can also recommend Slimming World. I find it easy with this diet as Nicho says you never need to feel hungry. I usually need to lose about a stone each time I've had a couple of months of steroids & this one definitely works. Good luck whichever way you choose & keep us posted. Best wishes 🌻Christina
Sunflower is this something like WeightWatchers here in Australia?...Peter
Yes similar Peter, but not really any weighing etc. I find it easy to follow once you get in the 'zone' in fact I eat lots more than usual, but just the right things. It's also prescribed by doctors as a healthy eating plan for people with health problems 🌻Christina
ps.whereabouts in Oz are you?
I really feel for you, Darren. I've struggled with my weight all my life and even more so since becoming ill with bronchiectasis. I've lost 4 pounds since the new year but poorly again and put a pound back on. The only thing to keep trying but as you have a lung condition you already know this. Good luck and let us know how you get on. 😊
Am interested in hearing about your diet as I am experiencing exactly the same problem...Peter
Good luck with your diet, Darren. Writing a food diary for a few days might help. You'll be able to spot where your more likely to overeat or snack on the wrong things.. Then you'll be able to take steps to avoid those issues.
Hi Darren it can be done. In January 2016 my consultant suggested that I should lose some weight so that he could go back to the transplant team and plead my case for transplant. At the time I weighed a massive 22 stone they wanted me to lose six stone. I took the view this has to be a life style change and not a diet. With the lung condition being restrictive whilst trying to exercise the emphasis had to be on the food intake. It's been really hard I won't lie to you. But today I currently weigh 17stone 7lbs. It's taken over a year to get to this point but if I can do this anyone can. Yes I'm on a high dose of steroids so don't let that get in your way. Small losses each week is sustainable crash dieting doesn't work. My mantra is eat less do more. So my fight continues to reach 16stone.
Hello Darren, oh how i feel for you. I need to loose a few stone like yourself but immobility catches me out when the pains bad. I can loose half a stone quite easily but after that it sticks only consolation is it is not rising at present. If you find some good easy ways let me know. I am sure it is more portion size than anything else. Good Luck. Oh forgot to mention I can't crash diet due to other illness, so has to be a slow plod, but can be reached with time.
I find the easiest way is to just tweak a few things for instance I stop having butter on my morning toast and marmalade, have one slice of bread less for my lunch, cut back on my intake of beer, 2 a week instead of 3/4 - a few less chips and more veg etc. it does not have to be a hard slog or 'an all or nothing' small changes over time will make a difference and soon become normal so less chance of regression - whatever good luck xxx
