My consultant had just prescribed Azithromycin and Rifampicin Mon-Wed-Fri after clear tests and bloods following several months of bad infections. Anyone with any experience of these drugs please. Just hoping they will keep me well.

I have recently started Azithromycin but I am building up to take 1 every day . I was put on it by the immunologist consultant I am seeing at the moment as I was getting infection after infection she found out that I had antibody deficiency and vit D deficiency. I was told by my GP that they could cause deafness and I also had to go for a ECG to. See if I didn't have long QT internal this was ask to be done by my resp consultant
I am currently taking rifampicin and clarithromycin for a Mac infection. In fact I've been on these antibiotics for over a year. The rifampicin turns your urine orange. Bizarre but apparently harmless. I haven't been aware of any side effects but follow the instructions carefully ie two hours after food one hour before. I have started to take probiotics to replace my good bacteria. The most annoying thing about the rifampicin for me is I once accidentally broke a capsule and the red powder went on my bright green carpet. I tried to clean it up with warm water and it left an obvious permanent stain! I have been on azithromycin in the past without side effects. Susan
Thanks Susan. I have Mac too but that's not what we're currently treating as it's lying quietly! I think my consultant is trying to prevent the constant infections I have been having. So pleased to hear it's not giving you any problems. I take Kefir every morning as I gather it's better than regular probiotics. I also have to have a blood test in a couple of weeks. Do you know how you got Mac?
