Tips for dealing with a bad day.

Hi all, From reading posts and from my own experience we all suffer from anxiety to some degree. I always try to be positive but like others I have my doubt days were you get that horrible feeling in your gut and feel panicked. Sometimes it comes from out of nowhere.

I have various ways to cope but would be very interested in how other members cope and what stratagems they find helpful.

I try the mindfulness techniques I have just learnt of sitting quietly, doing the deep breathing technique and focusing on one thing. Doesn't always work and I resort to getting irritable with the world! Not an ideal solution but I am sure others can empathise.

Even folks without health problems have bad days, so I just pour a glass of wine go sit in the garden and plan something good :)

I am quite busy most of the time and I find that distracts me from that "impending doom" feeling. Those times in the evenings when I am not busy and on my own, I take that opportunity to do some relaxation and put on the headphones with some music (to blot the world out), then go walkabout of the mind.

Badbessie -i've needed antidepressants for ever and the new breed have a strong anti-anxiety effect. Keeps me free from panic attacks and enabled me to recover from fear of flying and going in lifts.

There is an element of sexual abuse as a child- I can only remember the grooming ( money put in my hand and being told not to tell anyone) and suddenly waking in the night with my aunt bustling into my bedroom. I lived with different relatives from 8 years old to 13 because of my asthma ( away from coast,in Australia, and into the dry country air). I was immediately removed from my aunt's to another relative but never thought about why until I was about 50. This anxiety is really subconscious and pops up as physical symptoms. Sorry to go on .
