Travel Insurance Tip

Our travel insurance renewal came through from Staysure and had increased a lot. My husband has RA and ILD. I tried quotes from a few other providers, some refused and others were only slightly lower. I decided to try getting separate quotes from Staysure, one for me (no conditions to declare) and one for my husband. This saved £382! So just thought this tip might help any other couples whose premium is high.

That is a great tip thanks. I’ve always used Allclear until my most recent trip this autumn and their quote was so high I looked at HU for other recommendations and went with Staysure which was £hundreds cheaper. But, I put my mum and myself on the same policy. She’s in her 70s and has RA. Next time I’ll get quotes for us separately and see how that compares. Thanks for the tip.

That’s a really good tip! I’ll be looking into that when our annual is due. Many thanks Clover. Best wishes Diane 😊

I use Staysure too and have always found them reasonable re quotes. Fortunately I've never had to make a claim, I would be very nervous if I did because I've read of a few cases recently where insurance companies found reasons not to pay. Staysure was not one of them but it does worry me.

Yes it's the claims that worry me too. All the reviews are about the price and process of taking out the insurance, not about claims. I've heard of one instance where a claim was refused because someone hadn't declared that they took paracetamol! We have friends whose insurance is included in their bank account but they have never called to update the insurer with details of new conditions or tests they've had. I'm sure they wouldn't be able to make a successful claim. They think the GHIC card would cover anything that requires medical treatment anyway.

we used to use them but one time we had legit claim they tried to avoid paying out for hospitalisation. As soon as we involved the ombudsman, with one phone call they paid out in full.

That's the worry isn't it? That they'll try any excuse to avoid paying out at a time when you're not feeling up to fighting it out.

We had joint Staysure worldwide annual for years but last time the quote was over the top so we got separate policies, much cheaper. But this year the premiums shot up and we ended up with Aviva.

For what it's worth, I've had to claim from Saga twice and they were extremely helpful. Perhaps it is the cheaper companies which look to avoid paying up.

Thanks for that tip. we have been using Staysure for a long time but this year it had gone up a lot so we found Liverpool Victoria cheaper. I have lots of conditions RA Epilepsy Asthma & Bronchiectasis are the main ones I guess but hubby has no health problems. Will look into it for next year x
