Bad day made worse by reflecting on silly and stupid things.

Was shopping earlier today and started thinking…will this be the last toothbrush i buy?

When you think about it, we probably buy one toothbrush a year so when your stupid mind believes you may not survive that long can you be forgiven for thinking “ is this the last one i ever buy?”

😢😢

Our brains are weird, I am decluttering my home, so that when I have gone, my friend who has the job of selling it etc, will not have too difficult a job. I am finding it quite cathartic, rather than upsetting, but as it was not expected I would make 65, and I have just hit 70, I feel I am winning somehow. I found myself wondering how many more cornetto ice creams I could go through, which means, how long before I become diabetic, so maybe I had better reduce them. By another tooth brush, just for the hell of it!!

Good morning Mrbojangles. I guess it all depends how well we feel to how our minds work. And they can control our lives. Just try and be more positive and look forward to a day out or a holiday if possible. I find I am OK during the day when I have my mind occupied. Its overnight if I wake up for the loo I have major problems. Hope your day goes well and take care. Brian

It’s easy to get morbid and maudlin when we have health conditions like ours. We have to try hard to live in the now and not think ahead. Not easy.

You can be forgiven Mrb but no, it won’t be the last toothbrush you buy. You’re supposed to have a new one every three months!

Thinking of you. Xxx💕💋

It's not surprising that you're thinking this way with all that you have on your plate then covid heaped on top MrB. How's it going with the covid?

Coughing slowed down but breathlessness a major worry and using twice the oxygen as normal…

I really hope it gets easier asap.I don't know if this would be allowed for you personally....I read a few weeks ago here from a lady recovering from covid who was advised to take Cetirizine antihistamine during & after covid to help prevent complications with long covid.

Thinking of you. P

I don't know if this will help or not...

In 1980 my mother died suddenly at the age of 66. Ever since then (42 years!) I have often had similar thoughts to you while shopping. I look at multiple buys and think, 'I hope these will get used up before I shuffle off!' I tell myself it's ridiculous, but my brain won't listen.

I do make long term plans, but always with the caveat, 'As long as I'm still here.'

Despite this, I get up each day and start afresh, hopeful that it will be a good day. Sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't. But each time I see a new day I'm thankful - and I still have a cupboard full of multiple buys so I've GOT to keep going, haven't I?

Go and buy another toothbrush - or buy a job lot of them! Put them in the cupboard and remind yourself you're not going anywhere until you've used them all!

I hope you soon start to feel a bit better. COVID on top of everything else is a b****r, but give yourself time to get over it and things will look brighter, I'm sure. xx Moy

My late mother used to say ‘ God willing ‘ when she made new plans .She also stocked up on multiple buys in her 90s . I inherited job lots of household candles and soap. Most of the soap went to the food bank …..the candles I kept in case of power cuts , added to my collection. Moisturising cream and tooth brushes and paste I collect .

I tried to forward this post from our lovely Hacienda that shows a lovely flower with the words:-Focus on your strengths, not your weaknesses,

Focus on your character, not your reputation,

Focus on your blessings, not your misfortunes.

but somehow just can't do it, I am a bit useless with these tech issues.

I saved this post along with others that had meaning to me and hope you feel stronger soon x

My late father in law when he was 70 bought a new carpet ……this will see me out , he said .

He lived 30 more years and saw two more carpets .

😂🤣 good for him ! Isn’t it sad though that we all waste time worrying about dying when we should be enjoying living ☹️

Hi Mrbojangles, why worry too much about over stocked cupboards none of us know how many years we have left so grab the day by the hand and do what you choose, also buy what you want. My family or charities will be very glad of any items I leave behind when heaven calls. None the less I think all of us have days when we reflect on such things as will I ever do this again . Most of us possibly reflect on what we used to do with a little sadness , but in reality even with ill health we can still manage somethings even if from a scooter or wheelchair. Tommorrow is another day enjoy today and hope the toothbrush lasts till your next purchase

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought I might lose my husband over the past 17 years .🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m actually so annoyed with myself for putting myself through so much needless stress ! Not easy but when the sneaky dark thoughts try messing with your mind be firm , banish them, and carry on regardless 💪 I’ve become quite good at being mistress of my own mind , just takes practice and a sense of humour - I’ve given my mind a name and I often tell him to p…. Off 🤪😂

I started feeling like that when I reached 70. I'm still here in my 80ies and hope none of you spring chickens of 70 and less have such silly thoughts. I'm sure you'll live to buy many new tooth brushes Mr. B and why not buy some nice tooth rotting treats while you're at it. xxx
