Hi all, I know every one and case is different and there are no hard and fast rules, but roughly what can I expect being admitted to hospital with the above, I'm very very scared and have not just a fear but a phobia of needles & injections, thanks in advance.

Hi Badbessie, I know what ever they do will be for my own good, but I really do have a fear & phobia about injections, needles and those sorts of things.

Normally they give you water tablets or gtn to make you blood vessels dilate so hopefully you should not have too many injections. My wife as a total fear of needles etc and I have seen how anxious it makes her. She as a injection once a week and I am the only one she trusts to do it

When I had my electrocardiogram today I explained about my fears and was told that unfortunately it would involve needles and such like ( his words) he also said that the odema in my legs & ankles would only clear with IV treatment because it was past being felt with by tablets, I was on them last week (Furosimide) but it worked the wrong way for me and I had a rough time with it.

I am so sorry that it will involve needles. At least with IVs once it's in normally that's it as far as needles are concerned. Any chance they can give you something to relax you? I know they gave something to the man next to me to help him with Anxiety.

Have a talk to the nurse, from experience things go a lot easier when you are relaxed. When I was in hospital at times I just put my headphones on and listened to a talking book and lost myself to a different world. My wife called it distraction therapy. I called it pretending I was not there! but it helped. Good luck

Thank you, I know there are heaps of people on here that are far far worse than me, wish I could lose the fear.

I think you should be able to have a local anaesthetic spray before any needle stuff. I've had that a couple of times and didn't realise the doctor had started so do ask well in advance. I've always found that nurses are very kind an gentle. Hope it all goes well.

No sleep again, I really hate night times now, full of fear and anxiety, ankle & leg odemas have not changed, still no need for a wee, bad shortness of breath seems to come and then calms down for little, feel so so tired and scared.

Things always seem better in the day. Have you had any treatment by IV yet? I hope you have some improvement soon.

Get your friend to talk to you. I find it helps my wife. I tend to talk about dream holidays, winning the lottery anything to take her mind of the procedure. Ask for Emla cream it numbs the area. My GP gives me a tube because she knows my wife's problem.Keep us informed. Remember Anxiety is a normal way of dealing with an abnormal situation.
