Hi everyone I'm new to this site went to the GP on Wednesday with a chest infection he told me I might have COPD and told me to stop smoking You would think if your doctor tells you to stop you would think you would stop but here I am having a fag at the back door what is wrong with me

Hi
Deaf, sorry couldn't help it😀😀😀
If you're struggling may be e-cigs will help.
It's a must to stop the progression of the COPD, That you do manage to stop. Even if you have the odd lapse keep trying.
Thank you for your response i'll go downtown today and sort out the e-cigarette but knowing my luck it will probably blow up in my pocket
Get a proper e-cig, if you have a vape-shop near you ask for their advice - if you're addicted ( as I was and smoked for 60+ years) the supermarket/petrol station stuff won't help. Far better to go on-line than buy junk. Whatever, the bottom line is that you must stop with the ciggies - I packed in instantly when I switched to vaping and it was painless. Haven't smoked in 7+ years and my health improved immediately, please try because close on 2 .8 million have switched, and it works.
Hello and welcome Tony, please do your best to stop smoking, I know its hard. I've been cigg free for over four years now and it has definitely made a difference. Exercise is important also, so try to do some daily or as often as you can manage, and eat healthy. Keep posting and let us know how you are. 😊 xx Bernadette
Hi I agree with stone stopping will defenetly slow down the progression. It took me many years to stop smoking. But eventually did it with the help of the ecig. HU have a quit support site. I am a member of it. When you are ready you will stop. Take care.
Good luck with quitting smoking and lots of people do well with e-cigs so give them a try. Lots of help out there. Xx
It can be very difficult at first but stopping is vital to prevent a fast deterioration. There are aids to help and a quit site to offer further support. Do keep trying.
Good luck to you. I use an e-cig and it's working well for me, which is a reasonable recommendation as I smoked for 50 years. Not easy, but worth it. Best wishes. Pam XXX
Hi Tony nice to meet you I was diagnosed at the age of 42 the thought of giving up smoking scared the life out of me.
I had champix medication you take them and still smoke around 11 days after taking champix I didn't want to smoke that was over 11 years ago now, champix doesn't suit everyone and you have to have it on prescription.
Don't beat yourself up most of us have been in your shoes and we all think it will never happen to you
Hi Tony52. I agree with Onamission.I gave up smoking 6 years ago with the help of Champix, prescribed by my GP.They are very good and I also did not want a cigarette after taking them.I'm 76 now and had smoked for well over 50 years.See your GP and give them a go.
Good luck
I also had to give up smoking after 50 years and then finding I had COPD. I got a starter kit for an e-cig on Amazon and it cost about £10. I had 2 packs of cigs in the house when the stater kit arrived so I mixed first an e-cig and then a cancer stick till all the ciggies were gone and I have never smoked since. You can start on high nicotine and wean yourself on to non nicotine flavours. If you forget the health issues then think about how much money you will save, I can now afford a cleaning service with the money saved. Good luck.
Well here we go day one Got the patch on five bags of monkey nuts
I have copd and Iam afraid to say Iam still smoking but that's life lol so you are not the only one
Hi I have a few friends that there parents have COPD and still smoke. People shouldn't judge them . Stoping is a hard thing to do. But when you are both ready you will stop. Try the HU quit site for help they are very helpful and they don't judge you. When I was first dx with COPD in 2006 the consultant I saw said to me why stop the damage has already been done. Good job I didn't listen to him it took me many years to stop and only did it two years ago. Take care x
Hi Tony. I tried to quit the cigs for 10 years. I ended up in Hospital 3 times with exacerbation of COPD. The 3rd time the GP said I would be dead within 6 months if I didn't quit. I never had another cig after that. I haven't had any health issues for 3 years now. I also haven't felt so healthy since I was a teenager. Ask any questions here and I know you will get the most up to date information about your condition. This group is great for COPD info All the best Tony. Gerald.
