Hya I am going to be having a full lung function test tomorrow and I am feeling a little stressed, I had one some years ago and can't remember it, can anyone tell me what it entails and should I be worried?

Thanks

Diane xx

No need to worry, a bit like spirometry with extras. As well as spirometry they also do lung volumes: this can be done with --- brace yourself --- plethysmography. You sit in a glass box and follow the instructions, inhaling, exhaling. The physiologist has microphone directly into the box, good for those of us who are deaf, and will be very clear. If you want a print out of the results it might be worth phoning your consultant's secretary to ask that you be given them immediately.

Good luck, not that you need it

I had one recently. Mine took 15 minutes and was in 3 parts. Sat in booth and breathing in, holding breath and breathing out in various ways. Person talked you through what you had to do, Third part, the door was closed,

In my opinion worse part was using the nose clip/peg, I hate them.

Thank you sassy59 xx

G'day Diane

As per the other posts...no need to concern yourself..this is a non invasive procedure..just some huffing and puffing.

No need to wish you luck..just a little more involved than a spirometry test.

No, no need to worry. It's great to find exactly what's going on so you can take action.

Good luck, please don't lose any sleep over it - many of us wish we could have one more often!

Thank you xx

I enjoy them, the physiologists are so friendly & encouraging, they really help you get the best results. The only downside is, after 20-30 mins of blowing into various machines, I get a bit of a headache! But then I have a cup of tea & a Twix before seeing the consultant to go through the results with him :)

That's strange, must be due to different hospitals/areas. When I enquired about a copy was told I could only request a copy of the letter from consultant to gp when it gets sent.
