Do salt pipes help with copd
Some people find they help bring up mucus from the lungs, but everyone's different, I do know that using one won't do you any harm so if you feel you want to give it a try it won't make anything worse.Hope this helps. All the best.
I'm an American and I assume that's why I have no idea what "salt pipes" are. Anyone care to enlighten me?
well you could try googling it or find some to buy on ebay, there are also 'salt caves', rooms lined with salt and pumped into the air, idea came from observations that workers in salt mines did not suffer from chest problems and I believe these were used for a time for chest patients in Poland or Russia or one of those eastern countries, never helped me although I gave it a really good try. Have not tried a pipe but will no doubt help some.
The ones I bought were made in one of the southern Russia countries. They are mined in very old salt mines. The salt is estimated to be millions of years old. Many people around the world go to these mines and sit in specially made salt rooms. They pay a lot of money for this. The Romans used to use them a lot. Interesting history you can get on Google. It was proved by a few medical universities in the country that the people working in the mines never suffered with breathin problems.
There are some mines in Tibet.
It is a small porcelaine "pipe" filled with special sea salt. Plastic ones last a year and the porcelaine (spelt wrong) last 5 years. You breath in from the pipe and out through your nose, not back into the pipe.
Steve, you are not alone. I am from the UK . . not heard of them either.
I would recommend going to a Salt Cave, they have them in America. I've got a salt pipe but not sure how effective it is.

Hi believe they do. I bought 2 from Australia while i was back in New Zealand. They did help me breath easier. You should try them and test them yourself.
Thanks for your replies. I'm doing a bit of research on Google and will ask my Doc about them too.
I have COPD and am on oxygen 24/7. I bought a 'Sims' saltpipe about three weeks ago, try to use it for fifteen minutes every day as per recommendations and believe it has brought about an improvement in my breathing. My chest isn't as tight as it used to be, life is that little bit better.
Whatever you do, do NOT buy a pipe from Sims Saltpipes. I had safety concerns about a pipe I ordered from them. The pipe was low quality, with clay chipping off on the inside of the pipe, so bits of it would be breathed in if used. So far for credible certification. Contacted them. They agreed to issue a refund if I sent back the pipe. I sent it back, paid for postage myself. They acknowledged receipt of the pipe, said the refund would follow shortly. The money never came. I contacted them numerous times. They either did not reply or (when pressed on the phone) said now was not a good time, that they had financial difficulties, that the refund would follow. The refund never came. They are liars and thieves and do not genuinely care about our health. Do no trust them; all they are in for is a quick buck, taking advantage of those in need of help.
When I was first diagnosed with COPD I used a salt pipe to help with the amount of mucus I was producing and it did help and I used it until I was prescribed Carbocisitine

I have been using a salt pipe for the last couple of weeks it is a Himalayan Salt pipe from amazon, I also have aerosure which I am using daily I had a bad attack beginning of January which had left me sob when walking I have also been to a salt cave and will be going again as I have found that my breathing has definitely improved and I am sure the salt pipe has helped it is just making sure you do all these things regularly.
Hi.
Does using saline in a neb have the same effect do you think?
If you get that feeling you are getting an exacerbation, could you not use it until your chest feels better?

I bought one some time ago but I do find that having spent some years practising the 'pursed lip'
form of breathing, which definitely helps me, I now find it difficult to change to breathing in through my
mouth and out through my nose! Must be worth a try though for most people.
I seem to be one of the few that Salt makes my condition worse. I am 70 with severe COPD and Emphysema. Salt lamps, salt pipes and saline in a nebuliser reduce my ability to breath by a measured 23% as discovered when in Hospital. But many find the salt lamps and pipes helpful. Check it out for yourself because we are all so different.
What is salt pipes can you explain please as I have mucous that I'm trying to bring up but I was told salt isn't extra good for copd or for your body normall salt reply please thanks foxy79
I find them very helpful I am asthmatic they certainly wont hurt you to try.
Agree with your comments, certainly stopped me getting colds since I have had one, 2014. Also friend of mine was always catching colds turning into Bronchitis from her grandchildren. She has not had cold or Bronchitis or antibiotics since I got her a salt pipe in 2014.
Hi there. I bought a salt pipe a few years back but it didn't seem to help me. I think the whole action of the breathing in and out is perhaps the key to any of these aids, rather than the actual salt pipe itself. If it encourages you to concentrate on controlled breathing and setting aside certain times to do that throughout the day, then that is a good thing but the actual salt pipe itself wasn't for me a thing that brought up the deep down mucus.
