I find it impossible to expel air even quite hard (eg with a flutter) without bringing on a coughing fit. Does it improve if you persevere? Thanks for any thoughts.

That's the idea in a way ,the idea is to help loosen the mucus so that when YOU DO COUGH it's easier to bring up ,
We want to cough thats the point of the flutter and other devices ,, the more mucus we get up the better its just not nice
I can never manage to 'huff' I cough every time I try to clear the mucous - it's the only way it works for me.
