Morning Smithy, do you have any medication or inhalers to use? See you GP and explain what is happening and how you feel. Take care xxxxx

hi, it is very common to experience chest tightness and scary sensations for a while after quitting smoking. People say this can last for days to months in some cases. Persevere and it will likely go completely in time if you are at the mild stage. I would mention to your gp, but it may help if you take a look on the quit site and search chest tightness after quitting. Many people report feeling very scared by the way they felt after stopping smoking, but down the line they feel so much better. Keep exercising, eating healthily and am sure you will start feeling better.

Thank you so exercise what should I be doing how long for and how out of breath should I get ?

Hi nice to meet you. Ask your doctor/nurse to refer you to PR (pulmonary rehabilitation). This is a group which meets once/twice a week for a set number of months. There will usually be an exercise expert there also a trained respiratory nurse. You do exercises especially designed for lung problem sufferers then the nurse will have a chat and answer all your questions.

In answer to your question to get the maximum benefit from exercise you need to do it to the level where you are too breathless to sing but not to talk. Any less and you are not getting the full benefit, and any more will not do you any more good and might put you off doing it. x

It happens like that sometimes and often one course of antibiotics dosnt clear it up.

Get some sample pots while your there so you have them in the house to take a sputum sample with you its important to know whats being treated

Hope you feel better soon

That's the thing I don't cough up anything not even on my last infections to take any samples.

I get like that too which makes spotting an infection difficult some times but keep going back until your feeling better because your doctor should be able to manage your condition and if he cant you need referring to a consultant

I agree with you honey you can definitely be doing better than you are now ...there are lots of members on here who still work and once your doctor gets things right you will feel much better including emotionally :)

Unfortunately my doctor kept ignoring me because of my age and i spent almost a year on and off antibiotics then collapsed and was diagnosed with very severe copd and bronchiectasis ...Came home on oxygen 3 years ago ....
