This will afect most of us on this site if we go out or stay in .What if we do go out of the eu what will happen to our benifits or pentions will they cut it more or stop do any one know as i have google it and can not find any thing about it they have said morgages will go up so council tax will go up and as the french owns the elect companys i bet that will go up so what eles will the govement put up as we all know they are money grabers

I'm going to ask my 3 year granddaughter how I should vote, as she knows as much as me about this, and personally I'm fed up with being given such a responsibility all because someone wanted to win the ukip voters back, and probably didn't think he'd still be in office when he said it. Personally though I find it difficult to understand the sentimental guff you constantly hear about getting our country back and making it "great" again, particularly when most of what we did back then was to oppress and exploit huge areas of the globe. What was great about that?

The French need our business. They are not going to risk losing it by opening themselves up to the competition of which there is plenty.

Our benefits are not fixed by the EU. why do you think everybody wants to come here rather than over in Europe?

The Bankers and all of those making statements about larger mortgages, lost pensions etc all have a vested personal interest in staying in. They are the same people who said our economy would collapse if we didn't go with the euro. Well we know what happened there.

Hi David....privatisation of our utilities was the result of British government policy...likewise the sale of council housing.

I live in an ex mining and textile town.....all went after the 80 s ...don't think the EU had anything to do with that. Please anyone feel free to correct me.

Lots of the Politicians are scaremongering and confusing people with their in/out shake it all about! I remember when we were not in the EU and we were perfectly fine then and could be again but I doubt we will leave.

Just for the record, I, Pete and our son are voting out but I sense we will be in a minority. I just hope that these once great British Isles can cope under the thumb of Europe from now on.

I'm with you! It's eighteen years I believe since the Eu auditors signed off their books - it would be illegal for any company to carry on trading in such circumstances. I'd like to know why an organisation of that size and influence is immune from laws that affect every other business. Personally,I wouldn't listen to anything that david Cameron says. He said that if he didn't get what he was asking for in the eu, he'd back the out campaign. Well he didn't, and he isn't. He called Donald trump stupid then shortly afterwards congratulated him on his victory. He also made remarks about Sadiq Khan that seemed to imply a connection with a terrorist, then he congratulated him on becoming mayor, no apology fir earlier comments of course. Go back a bit further and just before they won the first election he made 'a cast iron promise' to hold a referendum in his first parliament, and he didn't. I get the impression that sometimes when he says what he thinks, someone pulls the strings and reins him in - I'd like to know who. But, if he isn't just a figure head, the inconsistency of his thinking makes his advice and opinions seem a bit like a leaf in the wind.

My guess is that nothing much will change in the short term so I'm ignoring all the rhetoric from both sides and thinking of the long term. The EU has expanded considerably in the past few years. It is now so diverse that it is hard to make any decisions at all. I think it is past it's sell by date. I'm voting out and predict that if Britain leaves, there will be pressure in other countries to do the same (Germany, to name but one). We need to make decisions based on our national interest and, joining the EU ( or Common Market as it was then) as late as we did meant that our membership was always based on compromise. The first time I was old enough to vote was in the last referendum on this matter in 1975. I voted to stay in then as I thought that was best for Britain. Things have changed since then and this time, I am in the out camp. My hope is that the scare tactics won't frighten too many people into a 'better the devil you know' frame of mind as happened in the Scottish referendum. If a second referendum was held in Scotland, it seems to be the common view that the outcome would be different. Fear of change is the common factor between the Scottish referendum and the EU referendum. I don't expect everyone to agree with me but I would urge everyone to take the scaremongering of both sides with a massive pinch of salt and to make their decision on what they truly feel is in the long term best interest of The British people.

It is quite amazing to see how many people actually believe that voting to stay IN would protect them from Cameron and Co.

Firstly, we can vote our Governments in or out, that is why there is a removal van at 10 Downing St. every 5 or 10 years, on the other hand neither we nor any other EU citizens have any vote or say about who controls us in the EU.

If we stay in even our little amount of self governing that we have now will be gradually reduced as we become just a Euro State, no longer any semblance of a self determining free nation, just a cash cow for euro magnates.

If we leave we will have a chastened Cameron who will soon slink into the background and a vote on who replaces him and his Government, plus a whole world to do business with. Europe will still want to do business with us, have no fear...Germany to stop selling us BMWs? French and Spanish to stop selling us food? I doubt that.

I see it this way, I have a choice, decide for myself how I wish to live my life, or have a committee of failed politicians decide for me from an office far far away............

Think carefully before you cast this vote, it may be the last meaningful one you will ever have.

That's a difficult one Tee. Im sure Hanne doesn't mean to belittle. But it's been proved again and again that the Sun lies. The truth comes out later but the damage has already been done. For lies, you only have to think of Hillsborough. People often don't seem to take it into account that papers are out for sales and some will write almost anything to get them.

I have a long memory......when we joined , was it not for trade benefits between European countries. ?? Making paperwork easier when ex porting and importing as my husband found with his business. Then it was nothing to do with law making, and dictating what we can & can't do within our boundaries or supporting other countries with huge weekly amounts....Money which could be better spent in GB. Yes , we get a rebate,. but not a lot compared to the amount given. It would appear that for the EU to work fairly all countries would have to be equal. Same pay ,same health care , same food prices, same bills , same benefits, . etc .etc. etc.......maybe I am wrong but to me that smacks at communism.......We can't all be equal , our countries position in the globe will not allow this. I do get the feeling there's alot of scare mongering about trade if we leave..........who honestly thinks Mercedes , VW , Skoda , but to name three from Germany, .......growers of..oranges ,lemons,limes etc from Spain........All the flowers ,pot plants , salad crops from Holland , Olives from Greece , fruit & chestnuts from Portugal........the list goes on and on. They will not want to stop trading with the UK.......sorry for going on a bit......... I am one for being Out........

I just can't contemplate a future dictated by Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson with Donald Trump in the White House. The out campaign is horribly racist and the economic arguments are unproven on both sides. But there is a massive plus politically from staying united and that is the longest period of freedom from war in Europe in our lifetimes. Some of the dangerous Brexit rhetoric makes me question how long this would be the case if we leave. Much as I am desperate to be rid of Cameron and Osborne I'm staying in but with a heavy heart.

Well, the future is always unknown, that is the nature of it.

As for politicians they are always relatively short term so not ideal to base long term predictions and decisions on.
