Hi Ed
Have you tried taking an antihstamine such as piriton or a one a day, it may be pollen/ spores/ dust etc. adding to your discomfort,
Hope you manage some sleep soon

Hello Ed. I'm so sorry you've been up coughing. I know how very tiring that is. I hope you get to see the doctor. I hope you can get a bit of a rest. Thinking of you today.

so sorry you are feeling so bad - coughing all night is very debilitating. Make sure you stress that you are feeling very poorly. Have you been on the same medication for a long time? Maybe it just isn't suitable for you. Could be all sorts of reasons, but these things are meant help, not make you worse. Last time I had a bad time coughing , my meds were changed and I have everything under control now, but you have to be persistent requesting appointments. I'm on Fostair twice a day and Salamol whenever - mainly just before doing anything a bit strenuous, or just as a back up.
Good luck with everything.

Agree seek help from doctor to check if you have an infection. Meanwhile a simple trick that does actually work for many people is this: get some Vics vapor rub, slather on the soles of your feet, pop some on socks and get to sleep. Best to sleep in a raised position, I use a bed wedge. Another point is to try to cough out any mucous before attempting to sleep because often this mucous causes us to cough.
I did not believe the Vics would work, but it does, in most cases, but you must get clear of mucous and not lie flat. If you do have an infection the ABs will not work immediately so try the Vics while you wait for them to work.
Good luck.
Evermore says to cough up any mucus before you lie down. I have to get rid of my mucus/phlegm every night before I go to bed or I cough as soon as I lie down. I do Active Cycle of Breathing Technique (ACBT - huffing) which brings it up nicely! Go to youtube.com and type in ACBT. There are several videos; I think this one is good youtube.com/watch?v=sawZdkp...
