Hi . I'm hoping to get some advice . My dad has copd . He's had a few infections recently and after Being on an antibiotic for 3 days he had to be admitted to hospital as he couldn't breath ,was dizzy, turning blue and we found out his oxegen level was at 75 resting . He used to use oxygen for walking about but now , in hospital , it's at 6lpm all the time just to keep him in the 90-95 region . They thought he might have pneumonia. But he's no fever or other symptoms . He coughs up blood though . They said there is "something " on his right lung but we have to wait 2 days for a CT scan due to holidays . Even if he takes the mask off to eat I've seen is levels drop rapidly to as low as 60 ! . Has anyone else had this experience . ?He's 71 and I'm worried.  It's so hard to get answers out of the docs . He's been in hospital 3 days now .

Morning marstar

I'm not much help as I don't have your farther's condition.  It does sound very difficult. And very frustrating that there is the delay because of the holiday.  There are plenty of people here with similar experiences who will be able to help.

Hang on here and someone will respond more usefully.  It is a brilliantly supportive site. Very compassionate, informative and caring.

Good luck.

Afternoon.

Its really scary but he's is in the right place, it could be Pneumonia it manifests in different ways in people. I've had it twice and your blood gas does drop to your boots. The first time I ever went to hospital before my diagnosis mine was half of what it should be so try and stay positive.

Thank you kimmy59. Yeah he's not been good for a few days . There is an improvement in him this evening . He can breathe a little better so I guess the antibiotics are working

Hi, as Kimmy says he's in the right place. The thing is there are many different bacteria that cause lung infections. Unless they test the sputum coughed up for which antibiotic is the correct one he may have been given an ineffective antibiotic - for him. The hospital should sort I'm out with the correct antibiotic.

I hope everything works out fine for your dad and well done you for finding us 😃

Oh I didn't know that . That's good to know . The one the GP prescribed was likely not working . I'm so glad I found this place . It's so hard to get information
