Morning all, just seen my Husband, Cyril off to the hospital for his hernia operation. He's had this enormous hernia for a few months now, I'm not kidding when I say it looks like he's 8 months pregnant. This is all as a result of mistakes the hospital made when he was ill last year with gall bladder problems. I nearly lost him, he was in ICU for over a month. He went in for the op in May, signed the consent form, had his ID bracelet on, and then they sent him home, saying they didn't have time to do it. I think I seem more worried than him, and am sitting her an emotional wreck !! I just hope and pray everything goes ok this time and we can get back to some sort of normality, (whatever that is !) and get on with our lives. This last 18 months have been bad, with him being in and out of hospital since February last year, not to mention my own health problems.
I shall be waiting anxiously until I can phone later to see how he's got on.
Sorry to ramble on, but I just needed to let it out.
I hope everyone is as well as can be expected,
Love and hugs to all,
Christine. XXX

It is totally understandable that you are worried about Cyril. I have had a couple of hernia ops (from previous surgery) and felt soooooo much better afterwards. So there is good news ahead. I also had a similar situation got a phone call just as I was leaving the house for the hospital!
I don't think any words can stop you worrying so maybe keep busy around the house and keep your mind occupied with other things.
Do you know how long he will be in for? I had to stay in overnight but honestly felt well enough to come home afterwards (I was sharing a room with the loudest woman on earth and really wanted to get home!).
Hi, SK, thanks for your good wishes, we've been told he will be in around 5 days, depending on how it goes, it really is a big one, he looks like he's swallowed a football !!! All this resulted from when he had an op for his gall bladder, he had drains in and they didn't check that it was ok to take them out, when they did he was flooded with bile and ended up with septicaemia , and had to have two more ops to correct it, and then had two episodes with his heart, it was touch and go for a while.
Hopefully, if this goes ok, that will be the end of it.
Oh my goodness! Understand how you feel. It is so worrying when your loved one is in for an op. Mine nearly died a few years ago - 2007 and he sent me home - I should have stayed because when I got home I couldn't sleep and spent the night on the phone to his sister-in-law - she is my little star and always will be now. He made it thankfully and I did find within a month I was getting annoyed with him for silly little things. Do hope all goes well for your hubby and you. Try and find something to keep you occupied. It will be so frustrating waiting for the time when you can phone the hospital and find out. Sending calming happy thoughts to you over the ether.
Love and big hugs to you.

PS if anything like that ever happens again - and I really hope it doesn't I will stay at the hospital for sure.
Hi Sk, saw him last night, op went ok, was still very groggy, lots of tubes and stuff. Was quite high on morphine through epidural, was quite funny really, saying weird things. Going this afternoon, should be a bit more lucid then. Thanks for your good wishes.
I rang a friend at midnight to help 'spring' me but he talked me down.
A memorable night for all the wrong reasons
Also remember consultant wanting to check my dressing (along with his students) I refused to let him until he washed his hands after seeing to her. Yuk
