I detested one of my inhalers bad taste in my mouth I went back to doctors he changed it to same drug but not powder I don't mind taking it now. At first when diagnosed I took inhalers regular then tailed off laziness on my part I now take them everyday after five weeks and lotsa weight loss fatigue unable to breathe I finally accept I gotta help myself more if I don't want to give up my work.

This COPD has taken more than enough over last three years I don't intend to lose my grip on it again. I accept COPD I can't change it but I can change how I fight it and doing what I need to do is my way now x

Gardening is excellent! I do light gardening to and it takes you away from daily life I love to potter in my small garden or sit watch birds sometimes I read.o know how it sort of hits you our illness it takes you off course a while but for me I wanted to continue work I felt if I gave it up I was giving up myself. Voluntary work is a lovely work to do and I hope to do some when I eventually leave work. And how lovely you are to take it up again your a giving person and I know it will help you in so many ways. You can't change your illness but no reason why it should change you! Work around it don't let it take any more than it has. You know when you love what your doing in your life it honestly loved you back, let me know how you get on please x

Your looking ahead already! Take it slow even though we all feel we can rule the world in our heads our bodies don't always agree! I think the hardest part is to get back on that roller coaster of life, try give yourself one morning volunteering do what you want to do as being happy in your volunteer work is what keeps you going. It's purpose outside of our illness and mentally we can move mountains. You have done so much ! I applaud you painting a park! Excellent your giving so much to people you don't know how lovely the smiles you have given to many. It makes you smile inside I know this. Take you time search every avenue there is more for you so much more and I can't wait to hear your next project tippiestoes. And have a moan it's good for you we all do that's what's so good about this site we may not understand fully everyone's illness but we all understand its ups and downs, keep posting please kep messages coming as I am so wanting to see you move forward and enjoy helping others and that as you well know is helping yourself x

I know this is late but hope you read it.I turned 60 in March 10 years of Copd.I now have severe emphysema Fev1 of 20%.I struggle to do most things but with exercise I have actually improve enough to be offered LVRS.I would love to be at 70% but that is pie in the sky.Excuse me for saying but your doctor sounds like an idiot ,you should change to one that knows about Copd.I have a wheelchair for hospital visits we can walk for miles for different tests and waiting for porters drives me mad.I will struggle all the way as I,m a stubborn old git now lol.Kindest regards,David,🌸🌷🌹

Well, I don't know what to say.

They don't prescribe expensive inhalers for nothing. They're to keep your airways open to help prevent infections as well as SOB. If you've had side effects you need to go back to the surgery, see another doctor if necessary younger ones are sometimes more in to preventive medicine . it's your right to see any doctor. I'm sure yours is right, if you don't manage your condition it can only get worse more quickly.

PLEASE go back and don't allow yourself to be fobbed off. Good luck.

If your lung function is 70% you don't really need more than a relieving inhaler.

thats intresting please explain why ? cause im totaly confused and dontwant to be taking any unessary medication my gp insists that i need it as i am a smoker as well and 70 is bad ?thanks staywell .

If your lung function is 70%, did you get that figure after a spirometry test, and do you mean your FEV1 is 70%? If it is, you really only need an inhaler for if you get a sudden shortage of breath. You will be given other medication should your FEV1 fall .

Smoking is very very bad if you have COPD. It is the main cause of this disease. Your COPD will gradually get worse, should you continue to smoke.

That is an interesting point of view about inhalers tamariki and may be true in your circumstances but as each of us is different I think the GP, having the full picture, is the one to decide what medication is needed for tippiestoes.

If you keep smoking you will only get worse if you stop you will slow down the progression but I think you will always be breathless you should take all the medication you have been given all the time. The damage has all ready been done take care
