Tumeric

Hi all!

I posted two weeks ago I think asking about Tumeric, sorry I haven't been back on before today to respond but I will get around to it in the next day - the baby has me run ragged.

Anyway, I got it and have been taking one capsule a day. I think you're supposed to take two but I'm lucky if I get a chance to take one.

I've had irritated airways from my nose to my lungs for years, they're permanently inflamed and each breath feels like it's catching just past the back of my throat. It's frustrating as hell, nothing in all the years has helped it...until now!

Since I started taking the Tumeric, that sensation is at least 75% better. I can't believe it. It can't be a sudden spontaneous healing as its been this way for a long time now, therefore it has to be the Tumeric. I'm amazed! I'll definitely keep taking it.

If you're near a Holland and Barrett they have their one cent sale and Tumeric is in it so you get two lots of it for the price of one.

Just thought I'd report back

Chat soon

Brilliant, so pleased for you Niamh. I've been taking it for at least 6 months and it may be why Ive been healthier than usual. You probably know this, but just in case, make sure there is black pepper in with your capsules as its necessary for maximum bioavailibility, the amount which your body can absorb.

Take care :)

This is fantastic Niamh. Good for you, think I'm going yo give it a go. I felt under par for quite a few weeks now.

O2, where do you get yours from with the added black pepper please? Ta

Hi P, I get mine loose, both the turmeric and the black pepper (and many other herbs/spices) from a shop called Food for All, in Cazenove Road, Stoke Newington, london, probably N16.

I usually collect it myself - its near where i used to live - but, although they don't officially do mail order, they have before now parcelled up an order and posted it to me.

The dose is apparently 1/2 teaspoon a day, divided in two. I make bright yellow porridge, and add the other half to evening meals.

No idea how much pepper to put in - I usually put in about 6 turns of the pepper mill.

I think it might have been Swerv who posted about this before (sorry Swerv if it wasn't you :) )

Thank you, I'm going to give it a go - although if Niamh's had such good results on capsules or tablets I'll try those first. X

Forgot to say, mine's organic, but also i imagine it would be cheaper loose. Let us know how you get on.

Stoke Newington is N16. I lived next door to it for many years. x

That's good to know Niamh, thanks for sharing. Hope the baby will give you a break soon. I think it's a contract all babies sign these days, that their slaves must put in at least a 20-hour day :)

Thanks ST. I've always wanted to ask you, do you take loads of supplements all at once? I take most of mine with breakfast and just occasionally worry about overloading the liver.

I figure it's best to spread them over the day (but I do take rather a lot).

I take a few best-on-empty-stomach-ones at least a half hour before both breakfast and evening meal. The bulk of them, half with breakfast and half with evening meal. Then I take the last few a half hour before bed, with a snack.

Niamh, so pleased you're feeling better, time you had a break. Encouraging info about turmeric. I've seen other posts about it from Swerv, but never can decide whether to try it or not.

Does anyone know of any reasons NOT to take it?

I have never heard of any downside to taking it. It is used in cooking in some cultures.

I heard a doctor on a radio show a few years ago and he said if he could only take one supplement it would be turmeric.

Hi nfanning

Great to hear you found something that gives you some results. I will be taking my tumeric again. I've become very lax

In taking supplements lately.

Thanks for the update...

Hi Nfanning,

The best way to take Turmeric is to make a paste, this ensures you add the right amount of black pepper which increases the bioavailability by up to 2,000%. It will keep in the fridge for 2-3 weeks and is cheaper than buying capsules. You can add it to smoothies, soups etc with no after taste.
