Nip it in the bud with aspirin.

Asthma is a very capricious condition. It comes and goes as it likes, and a patient might think they have a mild form of it, then suddenly be fighting for breath all night. The latter happened to me while trying to avoid using steroidal inhaler. Aspirin stabilized my condition and I use a reliever very infrequently now (no preventer at all.) bit.ly/salamol

Good morning Gerrytlloyd I am so pleased that aspirin worked so well for you. Personally I would not dream of altering my inhalers unless the doc or asthma nurse advised me to. The article was far too long for me to read, but thanks for posting it :-)

Thanks starveycat,

I've always been shy of steroidals, and then the blackouts started. I haven't proved that the beclomethasone was the only cause. Perhaps chewing gum was interacting. The trouble is it's too risky to experiment with. By resisting nurse and GP directives, I did discover a few things with certainty. Luckily, they were tolerant of my opinions and did help me by allowing some exploration of alternatives. 'have been through the blog one more time and shortened a few bits. Part 2 is a summary of what happened.

Thats interesting to hear, but not that surprising. Stilltruckin had an article on here about slowing down emphysema with aspirin. Doesn't sound to good dissolving it in your mouth. Do you take this everyday?

I'm used to using it carefully, sip water while breaking it up with my teeth, just a time-saver. As time goes by I've used it less and less, probably about 2 pills per day, but sometimes less. My new small dehumidifier has had an effect too, but it will not remove the need altogether.

Just a note of caution.....my father was prescribed soluble aspirin and he had a previous history of stomach ulcers....result was internal bleeding.

I cannot tolerate aspirin at all...makes me very sick.

Please check first. For a small majority of asthmatics it can bring on an attack

I am glad it worked for you though.
