Depression and pain
I think It would be best go by what your doctor says
Hi marsden , I used to take sertraline and amitryptaline together , unsure of ur combination though, but I'm sure ur doctor knows best, xx Sonia xx
You could double check it with a pharmacist.
Amitryptyline is an antidepressant though the dose you're getting for pain is too low to have any impact on depression. I take 25mg of Amitryptyline too ( to help with lung function) and I take a load of other meds at the same time. So far there have been no interactions. If you need something to help you with depression then you must make the doctor understand this. If he can't prescribe the drug you mentioned then there must be another one. Don't give up until you get a result.
Ye that's what I thought billiejean thanks for reply all x
Like Toci I would check with a pharmacist then you can go back to your gp. I just did a bit of googling for you. This site has it as a serious interaction (risk outweighs benefit) drugs.com/drug-interactions... but this one lists it "significant" which means youd need to be monitored by your gp rxlist.com/drug-interaction... It also depends what other drugs youre taking which could increase risk of adverse effects. Personally I would NEVER ignore my gp's advice. If you dont trust him you need to change. One suggestion: as amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant anyway, could your gp increase your dose to the correct amount for treating depression (75-150mg per day)? Robin
Ye robinell I been thinking of changing it took me a year to get a bone scan that's cos I was always going bk nagging due to pain. I'm slowly moving up on amitriptyline just feel like I need something for the day. I been reading few things on internet too. I will ask pharmist tomorrow thank you for reply.
It doesn't sound good on the links u sent me
Amitryptyline is indeed a tricyclic antidepressant and as such, quite oldfashioned in terms of depression management. There are so many other antidepressants available now, newer, better and with less side effects then tricyclics. If your GP isn't competent enough to treat your depression, then s/he should refer you to someone who is experienced in this field.
Thing is billiejean I think probably same problems with any SSRI. The tricyclics are old-fashioned but still work well. I agree with you about gp, depression should never be left untreated like this. Robin
Please when it comes to any medication especially antidepressants adhere to your GP advice. At the end of the day he / she is accountable for your health ☺
