Stuff The Cost...

Stuff the cost of the electricity to heat it...that's what Himself said this afternoon in relation to my shed. I'd been grumbling about it being cold in there and had dragged loads of stuff into the sitting-room...which takes the table over and leaves no room for place settings when it's supper time.

And Molly and Murphy think it's huge fun to play with pressed flowers or to sit on top of pristine white card while washing their bottoms with great enthusiasm...Murphy has tiny little bottom burps that catch him by surprise...

Anyway the cost of the lecky is a problem which I have to admit we didn't foresee when I bought the shed in the first place...wasn't on oxygen then, so a small Calor gas heater was ideal, but not wishing to blow myself or the shed into next week, I used an electric heater for the winter before last and the bill was scary.

Last winter I brought everything I wanted back indoors and the sitting room began to look like the 'before' picture in one of those 'make-over' programmes...or the one I used to watch with a growing sense of total disbelief...'How Clean is Your House' with the horrible gobby one and the sensible one.

Cleaning the rubber seal round your 'fridge with toothpaste and that kind of advice...couldn't see why they didn't just use Flash like everyone else...

Imagine letting television crews into your house when it was full of grot...I wouldn't let them in when my little cottage is pristine...which, I hasten to add, is rarely.

Another advantage...among many...in using my shed, is that I can fiddle about to my heart's content without Himself peering over my shoulder and asking what I'm doing...it's often feckin' obvious what I'm doing, but he still asks 'cos I once accused him of not taking an interest...payback time then.

It hasn't escaped me that years ago when we were working we had plenty of money...we were never rich, but we were comfortably off...but we worked 24 hours a day and had to fight for a week's holiday...now we have plenty of time and no money...

Something wrong with that somewhere!

Yeah,I think it is a club many are having to join, certainly does not seem right when we have worked all our lives and paid our dues,we should be given a decent pension, when my children were young, the government did not want our children to grow up as latch key kids so I worked in the evening when hubby was home from work, the only thing is I now only get half the pension of those that worked all day,it was at a time of a married woman's employment stamp,so unless you were told that if you didn't pay a full stamp you would not get a full pension, ( no one explained it to me ) I stayed home with my children, but now only get half a pension.

Yes, retirement certainly is a challenge. Thing is when at work, energy costs are not as high, don,t have to buy so many t-rolls either. Love Margaret x

Talking about toilet rolls, I go through them like wild fire when my grandchildren visit! 😂 I'm not sure what they do with them exactly but flushing loads down the loo at a time, springs to mind!! 😂😂😂😂😂

So why did the toilet roll roll down the hill?

To get to the bottom.

Hi Vashti,

The cats are adorable!

I live in a small studio bungalow so my bills and maintenance aren't too bad. However, I did retire last month so I probably won't feel the full impact of a reduced income for a while. I live alone. Well, I do have my lovely cat Tara who makes life worth living despite this awful disease.

Look after yourself

I do know what you mean about scary bills Vashti as my son-in-law has a shed that he likes to sit in but used an electric heater in the winter - our dear daughter blew a fuse and threw the heater out! It is wrong that you cannot afford to heat your shed as you really should be able to but utility bills are always high and the money is just not there.

Do you have any storage for your bits and bobs? or is that a really silly question? You can tell me where to go if you like, I won't be offended.

Wishing you and Himself well and hope you find a solution to your problem.

Take care, Carole xxxxxx

This made me laugh, my shed is full of rubbish , but I want to make it into a little retreat for some hobbies (just in case I am not fit enough to be able to return to work full time)😀

We have a cheap to run green house heater in our shed, it stops the damp and the cold to some extent. Fan heaters are the most expensive, convectors the cheapest. Halogen is OK too. Husband hung the convector halfway up the wall at the end of the shed.

Heating bricks on the range wrapping the in a towel and putting them in the shed where you put your feet would be an economic heat source.
