Cost of living crisis

I recently did an audit of all my bills and was shocked to find that almost all my bills are in credit (direct debit/standing order).I have since asked for my credits to be sent back to me.

Shame that these companies are holding so much money that doesn't belong to them and earning massive interest with their banks🤦🏿

Well worth checking as you have done. For this reason I have just changed from fixed direct debit to variable direct debit to stop suppliers making money out of credit held.

It's a ripoff! So far just over £100 in credits 😱

My leccy company recently proposed to change my dd to £250 a month. I told them to change it back pdq, since I am currently well in credit. You have to watch these companies, which is tough on those who for one reason or another cannot. Thanks for reminding us to be alert.

I've just had to do exactly the same this week , was going to take it out of my bank next week. Was more than Double the amount I pay. They even took blocked customers from being able to adjust payment themselves, had to email them again, did same a couple of months ago. I'm well in credit . It's disgusting they could even think of doing it Christmas month . 😡😡

We try to build up some credit during spring & summer. I saw Martin Lewis on tv recently, he recommended people start the winter with the equivalent of two months direct debit in hand. So I checked, and yes in fact we’d got a bit more than that, but would you Adam & Eve it, SSE wanted more! So I did the same as Alberta56 and told them where to go 😊

Oh I was with an energy company that went bust - I was £400 in credit at the time.

I was told i was now with EDF and EDF told me that, how kind.

I paid £48 to Utility Point monthly by DD - Now double that.

Oh and they message us, pay more before you DD goes up.

We are being robbed and not just by energy comanies,

Exactly! I was told,'Oh you're in credit, and your next payment is due January 2023!' l told her if I'm in credit should I be paying more to be more in credit? That flustered her!

You're always entitled to your money back from utilities if you're in credit, but I would be careful not to invite them to increase your DD because you're not paying them enough to stay in credit over the winter. They generally won't bother to calculate what they owe you if you stay in credit for a whole year, but they will be very quick to charge you a higher DD if you remove your credit just before the cold weather and they anticipate you going into the red. It all depends on your circumstances, of course, but it's generally considered cheaper to pay by DD in the long run if you can, than stop DDs (as many have done) because they are so much higher now.

Unfortunately, in today's world, it is very difficult to do without loans. People always want something bigger, a more comfortable life, and this prompts them to borrow money. Some borrow from relatives and friends, but most still take loans. The main thing here is to choose a reliable credit institution. I often use a loan from maybeloan.com. It is very convenient and the conditions are good.
