Hi Dorothy ,funny how we all think the worst isn't it ,

It's like when we are first told we have the illnesses we have now ,,we think it's the end ,,,but in reality it can be the kick up the back side we need to change our ways ,,,,,like stoping smoking ,,,,I did that in 1992 ,,,and exersising ,,,,who me ?? ,,,,,now I'm going to the gym twice a week ,haha ,,,,,and on a good day I'm fitter than my 45year old daughter ,,haha,

Take care Dorothy ,best wishes Georgina

Nanny, I am not sure that an electric bed should come too cheap - not such good quality. The same applies to electric chairs. PM me for details. XX

I bought a double electric bed three years ago (it's two singles put together with separate controls) and it cost nearly three thousand. Did it through Age UK. It has been worth every penny or should I say pound! Didn't know at the time that sometimes you get one through the NHS. I was sleeping in my electric chair before we got the bed xx

Thanks for the tip ,

I have had one for ten years and it is a godsend. It was pricy (though Igot them down to half price) Whenmy former husband was ill recently he found one on ebay much cheaper. Just be careful that it is a good make as they do vary a lot. Mine is made by Willowbrook.

I recently purchased one to help my breathing through the night keeping my head elevated. I was used to a firm mattress but these generally come with either medium or soft (suppose they have to flex ?) Got a quote from one of these companies that put flyers in mags for curiosity and nearly fell off my bed when they initially quoted £3000, then reduced it to £1500 (still far too high) . Managed to get one at a local bed shop for £400 and am pleased with it. It felt a bit soft initially but I have got used to it and sleep better. And don't forget if you are classified disabled you don't pay VAT on it some try to fob you off by saying we will knock the VAT off as a special concession?? :p

Here's to a good nights sleep

I got mine in Dreams I waited for their Sale and got it half price. Also if you have it for a medical condition you don't have to pay the VAT x

Hi ,that's what I'm hoping to do now ,

my 1st electric bed I bought from Dreams it lasted a few years then the motor casing broke as the 2 bars that hold the motor had been put in the wrong place, so my husband turned the motor round so I would still be able to lift the head end. then the mattress started to part in the middle. so I need to get an other bed. good old Ebay found a metal bed with a tempura mattress only paid £40 what a bargain most nights I sleep well but still have the odd night where I'm awake.

it did take a few weeks to fined patience is the name of the game

I think that if you need to sleep in a raised position then this would be great - we were talking the other day about sleeping propped up giving us a pain in the butt and I think this would be good. My partner has a bad back and would also benefit from this but we made a bit mistake a few years ago and bought an expensive new bed which has been a nightmare. So need to make it last a little longer before we finally splash out on an adjustable bed. Have seen some in Charity shops that sell furniture now but not many. Try checking o ebay or gumtree and see if there are any there - so long as the mattresses are in good condition they should be OK.

They are quite expensive arn't they ,I will have a look in the charity shops that sell beds etc, also on ebay ,thanks for the tip ,
