Hi lal531, stay sure and many others won't insure me because have ambulatory oxygen and because had 1 chest infection in a year, they did however put me through to a sister company who quoted me £536 I only need insurance for accidents as my emphesema under control and I have emergency pack to see me through, really upsetting :(

If you wish to exclude your lung condition from your medical insurance, there are several Companies who will arrange this. However the probability is that any claim you make will be related to your existing condition, so excluding it probably isn't a good idea.

Contrary to what many people think, the Premiums quoted are a fair reflection of the risk being undertken by the Insurers.

H.S.B.C. were absolutely wonderful when I was hospitalised in Lanzarote. They paid the bills but also showed great understanding and compassion and gave my wife total confidence that she was not left in it on her own when I was very ill.

Probably not the cheapest but worth every penny - remember you only get what you pay for and this is one thing that you don't want to get wrong.

I'm with an on line one called All Clear price reasonable, and apparently they do accept most illnesses and of course age has a bearing too. I pay less than £200 for annual cover for Europe.Have more than one illness. Hope the info is of use.

Used Insure & Go for years - with no claim. Asked them last Autumn after they'd cheerfully told me that I didn't have to do anything if my details were the same, and my coverage would continue. When I contacted them and asked the rate they seemed quite surprised but gave it to me. I checked the previous rate and the new one was exactly double the old plus a quid. I phoned them and asked why, having never made a claim, and they said it only happened when something significant had happened in the previous year. They finally explained that this was because I'd become 66 years old !

Well, Happy Birthday, Dec ! And bye bye to I & G.

This came up yesterday at PR - apparently the BLF can let you know who's giving the best rates. Good luck,

I am 68 and have severe COPD and mild Emphysema and I had a mini stroke at Xmas so I have been declined by almost all of the insurance companies but try ALLCLEAR

08452505350 who I found to be reasonable as well as accommodating.

If you are looking for insurance to cover pre existing conditions Just type in google.

" insurance to cover pre-existing conditions "

But have a good look at their excess charges etc. As they can be the killer. If you have been tested and do not divulge it it can invalidate the cover so be honest.

Good luck

Having tried unsuccessfully to get cover on all BLF recommendations I found Holidaysafe 0845 658 0570 very good & reasonable. All pre existing covered, excess is more expensive if claiming for any pre existing but worth having peace of mind being covered for everything.

I use to be with Lloyds bank and I was insured with them for myself and my husband but I had to pay extra for my self because I have lupus with organ involvement (pulmonary fibrosis).

I change banks to Nationwide and I pay £10 a month which includes travel insurance but as with Lloyds I have to declare any medical conditions and because last winter I had three chest infections I had to pay over £130 for annual travel insurance but my husband who had a chest infection decided he would take a chance and not pay any extra (he wouldn't have had to pay the same as me for the extra).

We went on a cruise to the Canary Islands, Spain and Portugal and we were all fine. I do use ambulatory oxygen and that was not on their list of extras.

The company Nationwide use is called UK Insurance.

Just remember the insurance companies will also base their quotes on how many medications you are taking, i.e I take two tablets for high blood pressure, if it was one it would not have mattered and I would not be charged more.
