Hi everyone. On Friday I was diagnosed with COPD, any tips on how to cope?
Help!!: Hi everyone. On Friday I was... - Lung Conditions C...
Help!!
Don't panic!! I care for my husband who was diagnosed about 12 years ago - he might be severe but we have a great quality of life just a bit slower ! And he still works full time,
My top tips would be to give up smoking (it prevents further damage) , get fit - yes really exercise is key. And ask the doctor and keep asking.
This is a great place with lots of lovely people to support you. Take good care lots of love TAD xx
Thanks, did give up smoking years ago, have difficulty with exercising due to a back injury. Lovely to hear that your husband is still working and that you have a great quality if life, that is certainly inspiring.
It is great to get support from all you lovely people.
Many thanks and take care, love Lyn xx

Don't worry, stay positive drink plenty of water, eat healthily and you will be ok, it's a lot to take in at first but you WILL be ok......could I ask what stage you are?
Thanks warbler. Not sure what stage, will ask the doctor when I see him on Friday. Should have asked last Friday but it was all a bit of a shock! Am very breathless most of the time. Just having a shower and getting dressed seems to wear me out.
Great people here!!
Love Lyn x

Hi Megannell, I am quite overwhelmed by all the kindness and caring from fellow sufferers, you are all so great! Had a few bad days (feeling quite depressed) but decided this morning that I have to look on the bright side and enjoy life. Will probably get much mire info and help from you all than I would ever get from my doctor. Thanks fir your support. Lyn x
Hi Lyn, and welcome from a newbie, just getting my head round it too, I think I'm starting to handle it a little better now with the help of these guys...it's taken me about 3 months & I'm only mild/moderate. Taking inhalers: 2 preventers and ventolin, exercising every day & revisiting GP regularly (he will probably say pestering) however I WILL control this as much as I can , you can too ...and now after I have my inhalers I can go upstairs, get dressed, go to the loo & only a bit out of breath x
Hello Lyn,welcome remember we have probably had most of the problems you are likely to encounter so don,t be shy and ask anything you want information about. As mentioned ask your GP for pulmonary rehab referral, this gives you lots of information as well as exercise tips.Good luck.D.
