Hi I am on pip, slandered rate for care and high rate for motabily I have now been diagnosed with COPD on top of all my other illnesses and I'm scared to inform pip in case I have to go through the full assessment again. The last one last year left me really ill. Please can anyone give me any advice. Thank you for reading this and kind regards to you all. Xx Kitty

Hi

Unless ther is a change in your mobility or care needs there is need to inform the DWP.

You don’t have to inform them of any further medical conditions as it’s not the condition that your award was made.

If you are looking to increase your award from standard to the higher award. Because your care needs have changed. Then this is a change of circumstances and will require a new claim.

As you are aware claims can go down as well as up.

Same happened to me. But they do say any changes to tell them more than likely will write to your consultant and Gp for confirmation of your copd. I also had to tell universal credit. It's best to ring them let them know then they will put your rates up especially if you have problems with walking etc. and on oxygen. Speak to advisors here or age concern.

PIP assessors are on my hit list!! Look at your scores on your care assessment and consider how your chest complaint can affect your abilities. Remember it's not about being able to carry utility a task; but about how the activity causes eg pain, discomfort, breathlessness and more reliance on a helper. People say yes I can manage my medication... but they have a blister pack, have creams applied to areas they cannot reach & may need inhalers or nebuliser or oxygen brought to them in urgent situation. Unable to open medicine packets due to tremor. These should all warrant points. Remember you don't know that your worst day may not end so describe that.

My assessment was at home & the patronising child advised me they weren't there to intimidate me. My sister ran out of the room laughing and wished her luck with that. I asked her to sit where I could see what information she was recording ( which wasn't welcomed) but I was able to advise her that some reasons for inability hadn't been noted. Saying I can't do that is not enough; you need to say eg I cannot use the hob.... I cannot move out of danger with any speed... my grip is poor and I cannot lift heavy pans... Can't bend down low enough to put things in the oven due to educed mobility due to arthritic spine and using 2 elbow crutches.

Look at each section and check you have given them full consideration. I'm not advocating people lie but really think about them. Do you know anyone else in similar situation? Seeing a score sheet may trigger an oh yes! Moment.

I feel for you, I have multiple conditions, and am going to tribunal to fight the result. The Pip assessors are on a different planet. I got the copy of mine as apparently don't have an illness I've been diagnosed with for 18years...priceless. It is extremely stressful, needlessly so.

I am waiting on a hearing date for the tribunal they have had my application since January,I have been to see my McMillan benefit advisor today as I have now received a Capability for work Assessment form to fill in. She is going to ring the tribunal this afternoon as she says this has been going on far too long. Since then I have been diagnosed with a heart problem which is being investigated, see the Cardiologist next Thursday. I was originally awarded enhanced rate & high rate for mobility, I was diagnosed in 2002 with Emphysema & now have asthma , Had Cancer surgery in 2016 & treatment which finished in July, but I now have pleural plaque. When I was originally diagnosed with emphysema I was given the high rate mobilty for life, as they said my condition would only get progressively worse, and now they have stopped it all together.. P.I.P. they are a joke,

Joycet that is absolutely terrible and good luck with your consultant. This is what I am so scared of,If they start a new assessment I could loose what I have now I am so tormented with it I don't no what to do for the best x

Hi Kittyjack, saw the Mc Millan lady yesterday and she helped me fill in the Capability for work forms, and offered to call the Tribunal court to see what was happening, they have had my case since January. She rang me after speaking to them , they told her my case is with the Judge,but no hearing date has been arranged, it's a flipping joke, all this time waiting, don't need this extra stress..
