Hi, I am travelling to Zante in the summer and would like to know if anyone knows if I can get oxygen abroad using my EHIC card? Or has anyone used oxygen abroad and how do you go about it? This is my first time abroad since I have been using oxygen.

Hi

Speak to your oxygen provider ther will have all information.

Oxygen abroad usually as to be paid for.

An alternative is to hire a portable concentrater to take with you.

I know nothing about oxygen I'm afraid.

I would advise taking out holiday or travel insurance tho. Please don't rely on you European Health Card. I attempted to use it several times in France in the last few months and no-one recognised it at all - only the pharmacies who gave a proper receipt for claiming back.

The year before last my daughter was also stung when attempting to use it after being hospitalised for only three days, also in France. Her bill was over £4000. she could not claim back on the EHIC.

no one will give us travel insurance if you use oxygen only cover us for no ills

this is why cruise as the have doctors on the ship P& O are the best

Greece is just about to default on its loans from the IMF, so will be bankrupt. Its own citizens won't get any health care, so visitors won't be regarded as a high priority.

We hired a portable concentrated from health oxygen. Cost £200 but delivered a week before needed so we could get used to it. Ended up having to cancel trip but got refund of £100 . Company were very helpful.

Last year I was able to arrange for liquid oxygen to be delivered to my holiday hotel in Alcudia, Majorca, through the EHIC system and this was free. This is available in different parts of Europe and you need to check if the service is available at your destination. The staff here at Health Unlocked know a lot about this and you should contact them. Also you can go on the official EHIC site on the internet and learn a lot from that. Hope this helps get you started.
