Oxygen abroad
Yes I have oxygen on holiday abroad i hire it here and use it on the flight here and back and at the hotel try healthyoxygen co2,their price was the cheapest and delivered it four cays before you go to get used to it was £320 for14 days portable oxygen either continues flow or pulse rate or both and even sort flights that
Thank you for your reply, I was led to believe I could not take oxygen on plane? And was given phone number to ring to sort out myself. Had a reply today and they quoted me €1114.35 which is nearly double the cost of the holiday. I will try healthy oxygen and see if they can help me. Thank you x
Some airlines like British airways provide it free for the flight . I have travelled to Portugal, lanzarote and Tenerife and used my e111 and got it free, I arranged it all by email before I went. I gave them a uk prescription from my doctors .
Hi, I can longer go abroad by flight,,,as my oxygen levels drop too low ,,,,even with continuous suplymentary oxygen,,,,but when I was able to ,,,,we loved to just go to Majorca for a couple of weeks ,and flying from Birmingham with Monarch ,they supplied the oxygen at a cost of £180 for both flights,I found that much easier ,as I was first on the plane and the oxygen was fitted etc,and I felt more relaxed,,,,I only needed the oxygen during the flight,,,,I can highly recommend Monarch airlines they looked after me so well I couldn't fault them,,,,,I now enjoy holidays in UK,
Hi Reanybeany - that sounds an exorbitant amount of money to pay for something to keep you well. The coupany that quoted you that, like Insurance companies are making a fortune out of people who have something wrong with them. We should still be able to travel anywhere in the world like any disabled person.....
I do not know the cost of hiring an oxygen concentrator for the duration of your holiday, but I think that may be a better option. Lolly. x
If you are travelling in a EU country, if you use your E111 card you can get it free of charge. I go to Spain and have a concentrator delivered, but I have to hire a portable one to use when I'm out and about which I have to pay for. Hope this helps you.
Hi Scud - Thanks for your help. I've been trying to find out this info for a month with no luck. I use a concentrator at night only, wouldn't need oxygen on the flight as my COPD is very mild. What company supplies your concentrator in Spain? I want to go to my friend's apartment in Fuertaventura & see another friend in Mojacar. No-one but you as told me that you can use your E111 card to get it free. When you're on a low income, finding the money for the flights takes some doing without having to pay double to price of the flights for oxygen!!
The company I use is Air Liquide, you will need a prescription from your Dr to send to the oxygen supplier. Hope you find this info of use. Good luck
Hi Scud - I emailed Air Liquide because they have supplied my oxygen when I travel in the UK & they told me they don't supply oxygen in Spain??!!! Whats going on I wonder? I am under the London Chest Hospital, Dr Lloyd-Owen put me on oxygen & he did my perscription so I will have to ask him if can send me a copy.
Thank you so much for your help
Hi Penelope my supplier also is air liquide but that's right they don't supply to Spain you have to contact the Spanish supplier, I got the number from the British Embassy they were really helpful, give them a call and tell them which region you want to visit I'm sure they will help you
All the best
Thank you so much Scud I really appreciate your help
Thank you this sounds great, what company do you use to organise your oxygen abroad?
I have a portable machine in Roquetas de Mar in Almeria Spain which is available for hire to members at £70 a week although they would have to arrange pick up from Roquetas and delivery back to Roquetas - it has no battery so no good for going out (unless you find a kind bar that will let you plug it in, which some will) but is fine for in an apartment and overnight. I have left it there as I am hoping to sell my late Mother's apartment and will need to use it myself, if and when, the apartment sells and I have to go out to sign documents etc. Please leave me a personal message if it is any use to anyone. Thanks. A deposit would be required.
go on the spanish site for oxygen you can fill a template letter send it to the area you are going and it will be supplied free i will see if i can find the web site for u
i only do a cruise and i take my own oxygen machine with me so i dont have to get a quote its the best holidays i have had i go with P and O they do all they can for you but if you fly you must get a fit to fly first and on the ship you have a doctor and nurse if you need help and insurance is a must
