hi honey

I have a nippy machine so its similar and im assuming we use the same sort of masks.....

There is the full face one which i couldn't handle then there is the nasal one that fits over the nose and not mouth and ive just been given one called nasal pillows where it just fits into the nostrils so the nose isnt covered at all

Could he use one of those....i myself havnt had any nose problems apart from bruising so cant suggest anything else

I have just looked up the nasal pillow mask and it can be used with bipap.....i have one from the nhs but they can be bough online

Ask the BLF helpline if you can use KY jelly.

You should ring your pulmonary care nurse before you go buying things. They may be able to prescribe a different mask. You can ease the soreness with a water - based cream such as KY Jelly.

Buying one mask is not to dear but costs could soon mount up long term ;-)

ask for a humidifier to gone on the bi-pap machine, you fill it with water, I had same trouble with the v-pap from the Royal Brompton they gave me a humidifier to use with it, Now I'm changing over to the Norwich and Norfolk they have put me on a Bi pap machine which I had to wait for a couple of days for the humidifier to arrive again my nose stated to dry out, now I have the humidifier set right all is great again. hope this helps

Hi, my husband has a CPAP machine with a humidifier and uses vick and lip balm - vick across his nose and cheeks and lip balm all around his nostrils. Seems to help. I have always used lip balm around the nose when I have a cold - cheaper than the balm tissues :-)

This could be a stopgap until you get your new stuff.

Hope it is of use to you.

LGxx

I was told not to use anything with petroleum jelly in when on oxygen, something to do with catching fire.

I am on a c pap machine and i use the mask , i did try the nose prongs but they made my nose very sore. The mask is not as bad as it seems you do get used to it . I have been using my cpap machine since September .
