i had 3 bad chest infections last year and each one lasting 9/10/weeks.in october i was diagnosed with bronchiectasis. i saw a specialist and was put on carbocisteine and was shown how to clear my airways each day. Since then no infections and hardly any mucus coming up.
My only problem since i have been clear is a very sore chest. It feels like someone has been inside using sandpaper !! i presume this is a normal feeling , especially as i have this condition and my chest and lungs took a battering last year.
i did have fatigue between some of infections but not since end of last infection....until this week!! everything aching and really feel i cant do anything. But from experience i know i can and i do carry on with rests. Is it a coincidence that this fatigue, and my chest feeling more sore, is due to recent increased temperatures? i didnt feel like this in the winter .

hi thanks for reply..going to contact consultant. i think i have accepted the sore chest as a symptom and probably appreciated not having any infection for a long time
Hi I have bronchiectasis and take antihistamines during spring summer also is it possible that you maybe clearing your lungs a little harshly putting pressure on your Airways just a thought drinking plenty of water a day helps to
thanks for reply. yes drinking water. you might be right about clearing airways. i have hardly any mucus coming up over last 6 months and sometimes i might try to clear lungs more than i should. i will try anti histamines.
I clear once a day after using a acetylcysteine effervescent tablets and an acapella device as I found carbocysteine was shorter lived as I was taking them 3 times a day for 6yrs has made all the difference. Hope you feel better soon
Hi john, I have Bronchiectatis and am on Carbocysteine too. I have an inhaler (fostairs) and a nebuliser to inhale a saline solution. All help with clearance. I don't get a sore chest with coughing up mucus but do get a very dry mouth and am always tired and unable to do much anymore. Hope you get your sore chest sorted. Take care
Hi again John, I should have added that although I'm getting better at using my clearance devices correctly I'm not very good at the actual huff & puff etc breathing techniques! I'm the opposite to you I tend to rely on the machines to do the clearance for me🙄(very lazy I know) so that's probably why I don't suffer from a sore chest. Take care xxx
