I have my first PIP consultation tomorrow morning in Edinburgh I phoned to say I might not make it due to my chest infection only to be told I have to put it in writing why I could not attend and if I did not I would be put to the bottom of the pile, I told her this was shocking and her phone manner was just as bad and does her training teach her this.matt

That's awful Matt and bang out of order. You can't be the only person ever to be too ill to attend. I would go if you can but not if it is going to affect your health. I would also contact your doctor/consultant to tell them about this. x

what a shocking way to treat anyone, matt. put them in their place!! when you go,, i would have got in touch with my local councillor, or doctor , that is really terrible, risking your life to see some jumped up smarty, especially when you have to travel a few miles , tell them that too.. makes me mad these things anyway hope all goes well,, jimmy

Consultant?

you'll be lucky if they are a nurse, be more likely a therapist at best and unlikely to know about your condition

this is standard practise by them

Well Matt , it would seem attitudes have not changed over the years towards the sick and disabled. The reaction towards your phone call is a standard red tape reply. Although ill you are still expected to attend for assessment often in inaccessible places, with no parking or public transport nearby. I agree make your feelings known at the PIP assessment. Good luck too

This has to change it is on the way ,I find that ,if you can't get out ...tough you fall through the net and end up back in hospital ,I'm supporting every thing I read to help to the people that need it because at the moment only people that are well get help. It's because surgeries NHS is NOT sustainable on the present budget!! So lots of negligence and untrained staff!!

Seems nothing has changed. You could of asked for a home visit at the start. But they never make that clear. As many have said the person may not have any knowledge of your conditions? I would ask at the very start what they know of each condition and it's affects on health and mobility?

Remember to not underplay your condition tell them of your bad days only.

Good luck

Matt you know you cannot be ill when you have an appointment to keep. How very dare you! Sorry to be so sarcastic but honestly you could throttle some people. Rude and ignorant at best because they have no idea what you and others go through. You rang to inform them of your problems so that should be good enough. Disgusting and makes my blood boil - though I hide it so well!

Get well soon and give PIP a kick up the backside. xxx

This attitude has been about since Atos were given a contract by Mr Brown along with the contract they were given a free rain to treat us how they like as long as people who need benefits are taken off them and found fit for work. Mr Cameron has done nothing to change this and Mr Millerband will continue with this system Mr Brown wanted to re-new the contract with Atos and Capita are a sister company of Atos who if you look them up are a IT company who pay Doctors, nurses and now ambulance drivers a few quid to do the medicals and assessments and then put them under pressure to find them fit for work.
