The active ingredient is Histamine Dihydrochloride, a topical analgesic and vascodilator. No clinical studies. Might provide some temporary relief, but no lasting benefit can be expected
I haven't heard of Australian cream, but I know a lot of people who are having a lot of success with Turmeric. There is a group on Facebook called the Turmeric User Group that was set up by an Australian vet, Doug English. The group is for both animals and people and there are over 60,000 members worldwide. Turmeric often helps with pain from many issues, including oesteoathritis, fybromyalgia, inflammation and many, many other medical issues. Not all Turmeric is equal as many commercial brands have had the curcumin removed, or fillers added, rendering it useless for pain/inflammation. As Turmeric is oil soluble, it needs to be taken with a cold pressed, Virgin/extra Virgin oil, such as coconut oil,mor olive oil, or fish oil, but not vegetable oils as they're inflammatory and will add to the problem. Buy Organic Turmeric and use freshly ground black pepper, as the piperine in the pepper increasing the bioavailability of Turmeric. The ratios are: 1 part Turmeric, to 3 parts oil and Turmeric 1 part to 16 parts freshly ground black pepper. If you do a search on Facebook for the group, use Capitol letters at the beginning of each word and note that Turmeric is spelt with 2 R's, not one as many can't find the group for those reasons. There are recipies for Golden paste and lots of info on there in the files, but do not use commercially bought capsules as these often have very high levels of Curcumin, sometimes as high as 95% and this can be toxic if used for long periods. Standard Turmeric contains levels of 3-5% and are safe. You can buy a capsule maker and capsules to make your own, but they must be taken with oil and freshly ground black pepper. Pre-ground is no good because the piperine in black pepper goes after 1/2 an hour. The recipe for Golden Paste is:
Half a cup of Turmeric powder
1 cup of water and 1 cup extra if needed
70mls of Virgin/Extra virgin cold pressed coconut oil (the oil must state this or it's no good) put the coconut oil jar in hot water to melt before use.
1 and a half teaspoons of freshly ground black pepper, from black peppercorns
Put Turmeric powder in a saucepan and add 1 cup of water. Stir over a low heat and heat gently, but don't boil. Stir for several minutes approx, adding a little more water if necessary. Remove from the heat and add the oil and black pepper, stirring vigorously. Allow to cool and put into a sterile glass jar and refrigerate. It will keep for up to 4 weeks in the fridge, but best before 2.
It doesn't taste nice, so I put mine in coconut milk, but many people, including those with knee problems have been helped. It's also best to start off at about half a teaspoon 2-3 times a day, and work up to 1 teaspoon, three times a day.
